JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The University of North Florida baseball team announced a change with the coaching staff. Former Osprey player Andrew Hannon was promoted from graduate student assistant to volunteer assistant coach.

“This is a tremendous honor,” Hannon commented of his new position. “I am very thankful to Smoke [Laval] and the rest of the coaching staff for this opportunity. I have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to play here at UNF and to now begin my coaching career at my alma mater.”

Hannon officially joined the Ospreys’ coaching staff in August of 2011 as a graduate assistant. Hannon oversees the Smoke Laval Baseball Camps, as well as, the North Florida infielders. Hannon assists the North Florida coaching staff with the day-to-day operations throughout the season and participates in on-field activities during practice and competition, including assisting with drills, throwing batting practice and assisting with warm-up activities. In addition, he handles all equipment, including purchasing and distribution.

As a player with North Florida, Hannon was honored by the Atlantic Sun Conference as a member of the 2011 All-Academic Team. He boasted a career batting average of .327, going 177-for-541 at UNF with 34 doubles and six home runs to his credit. The Jacksonville native was the ultimate utility player for the Ospreys, seeing time in the field at first base, second base, shortstop, third base, in the outfield and as the designated hitter. Prior to the 2010 season, he was named to the initial Brooks Wallace Shortstop Watch List.

In the summer of 2011 and 2012, Hannon worked as an assistant coach with the Lacrosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. He coached first base while working with the hitters and the infielders. The Loggers won the 2012 Summer Collegiate World Series to be crowned 2012 Northwoods League Champions.

During the summer of 2010, Hannon served as the head junior varsity coach for Nease High School in Jacksonville, Fla.
