College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 college baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

Number 90 on our Top 100 Countdown is Austin Peay State’s Jordan Hankins. The 5’10 second baseman/catcher from Wentzville, Missouri was a member of the Team USA Collegiate National Team over the summer of 2012.

As a freshman, Hankins played a large role for the Governors, starting in 52 games and earning a .351 batting average. Hankins also showed a lot of power on the year with 15 doubles in addition to four home runs and 31 RBIs.

In the 2012 season, Hankins continued his success, posting a .336 batting average with 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 66 total RBI.  In addition, Hankins also had a team-high on base percentage of .444, due largely in part to the fact that Hankins only struck out 16 times all season.

Hankins’s success earned him a variety of awards over his time so far at Austin Peay including 2012 second-team ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region, 2012 first-team All-OVC, 2012 OVC All-Tournament, 2012 All-Region team (Eugene Regional), 2012 Baseball America OVC Preseason Player of the Year, 2011 Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American Team, 2011 Baseball America Freshman All-American Team, 2011 Second-Team All-OVC, and 2011 OVC All-Freshman Team. Debatably, the highest honor Hankins has received was being named to the 2012 Team USA Collegiate National Team.

From a scouting perspective, Hankins is defensively sound, but a gem at the plate. He has a strong bat but an even better eye making him a threat to even the strongest pitchers. His consistency is marked by his lack of strikeouts and extremely high on base percentage. When that consistency is mixed with the power demonstrated by Hankins, an excellent combination is unleashed setting Hankins’s ceiling at the plate very high and also making him one of the Top 100 players to watch for in 2013.
