WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head baseball coach Tom Walter has announced the team’s 2013 schedule, which includes 27 games against teams that participated in the 2012 NCAA Baseball Championship.

“This year’s schedule is formidable. With 27 games against teams that were in an NCAA Regional last year, we’ll need to be much more consistent than we were last season,” said Walter. “The good news is, I really like the make-up of our ballclub, and we have experience at the right positions. We’re excited to take another step forward with our program.”

The Demon Deacons will not go more than six games at any point during the regular season without playing a team from last year’s NCAA Tournament.

Of the 56 games on the schedule, 30 will take place at home at Gene Hooks Field at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Demon Deacons will open up the home portion of their schedule on February 22 at 4 p.m. against Youngstown State.

Before playing at home, though, the Demon Deacons will begin the season with their first five games away from home. Wake Forest opens the season with a doubleheader on February 15 in Monroe, La., playing Alcorn State at 3 p.m. ET and playing host Louisiana-Monroe at 7 p.m. ET. The Deacs will play Alcorn State again on February 16 at 3 p.m. ET and Louisiana-Monroe again on Sunday at 12 p.m.

“I’m really excited about opening at Monroe, as they have a great gameday atmosphere,” said Walter.

Upon arrival back to the state of North Carolina, Wake Forest will head to Western Carolina on February 19 at 4 p.m. before playing a game in Winston-Salem.

The only ACC school not on Wake Forest’s schedule this year is Duke, as the Deacs will take on the other 10 teams in the conference. The ACC schedule begins with two series at home with North Carolina on March 8-10 and NC State on March 15-17. The Demon Deacons will also host Virginia (4/5-7), Boston College (4/19-21) and Miami (5/10-12).

Wake Forest’s five ACC series on the road include Maryland (3/22-24), Georgia Tech (3/29-31), Clemson (4/12-14), Florida State (4/26-28) and Virginia Tech (5/16-18).

After traveling to Las Cruces, N.M. last season, Wake Forest will host New Mexico State for a three-game series this year on March 1-3.

The Deacs will play out of conference home-and-home series with Western Carolina, Charlotte, High Point, UNCG, Winthrop and Elon. Other teams on the schedule include West Virginia and Gardner-Webb.

Fall practice for the Demon Deacons will begin on Saturday, October 27, and will culminate with a week-long trip to the Dominican Republic to play six games against local competition on December 16-22.
