CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina baseball program announced its 2013 schedule on Thursday, a challenging slate that features 25 games against teams that reached the NCAA Tournament a year ago. Carolina will host 36 games in Boshamer Stadium, including ACC series with Miami, Clemson, Maryland, Duke and Virginia.

Carolina will open the season with a seven-game home stand with Seton Hall coming in for a three-game series (Feb. 15-17) followed by a visit from 2012 College World Series participant Stony Brook (Feb. 22-24).

Following a visit from Big East Champion St. John’s for a midweek test, the Tar Heels will head to Houston, Texas for the annual Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park (March 1-3).

The Tar Heels will face perennial college baseball powers Rice, California and Texas A&M during one of the top tournaments in the country.

“Our 2013 schedule delivers several exciting and challenging games for us this season,” head coach Mike Fox said. “Playing in Houston will be a great experience for our players and will prepare them for another challenging ACC schedule.”

Carolina will open the 2013 ACC schedule on the road for the fourth straight year as the Tar Heels will take on Wake Forest March 8-10.

The Tar Heels will host Miami (March 15-17) in the ACC home opening series before traveling to Boston College for a three-game set March 22-24. Boshamer Stadium will then host NCAA Regional team, Clemson, to close out the month of March.

Carolina won 8 of 9 games against Maryland, Virginia Tech and Duke a year ago and will play series against the clubs in consecutive weeks in April with a visit from Maryland (April 5-7), a trip to Virginia Tech (April 12-14) and a visit from Duke (April 19-21).

The Tar Heels will play one of the more difficult ACC schedules down the stretch traveling to Raleigh to face rival NC State (April 26-28) before making the trek to Atlanta to square off against the reigning ACC Tournament Champion Georgia Tech (May 10-12).

A third NCAA Tournament team in as many series will visit Boshamer Stadium to close the 2013 regular season when Carolina faces Virginia May 16-18.

The non-conference schedule features midweek dates with a number of in-state opponents, including home-and-home series with Elon (Away – April 9; Home – April 17) and UNC Wilmington (Away – April 3; Home – April 23). Other Old North State foes visiting Chapel Hill include Davidson (March 6), Gardner-Webb (March 12), High Point (March 13), Charlotte April 24 and Appalachian State (May 14).

UNC will also host Princeton (March 19), VCU (March 26), Winthrop (March 27), The Citadel (May 1) and James Madison (May 7-8) as part of a 36-game home schedule.

The Tar Heels will play 14 of their final 20 regular season games in Boshamer Stadium.

The 2013 ACC Tournament will be held at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park in Durham, N.C. and will run from May 22-26 and the NCAA Tournament will get under way June 1 with the regional round.
