Bronx, N.Y. – Fordham baseball head coach Kevin Leighton announced the team’s 2013 schedule today, which will feature the first-ever Frankie Frisch Invitational, hosted at Fordham’s Houlihan Park, as well as games against Michigan, Wichita State, Georgia State, and 2012 College World Series participant, Stony Brook.
Except for 1944, the Fordham baseball program has played every year since 1859 and stands as the winningest program in NCAA history. The Rams will be competing for their sixth Atlantic 10 Championship tournament berth in the last ten years, in hopes of being at the 2013 Atlantic 10 Championship, May 22-25, which will be hosted at Charlotte’s Robert & Miriam Hayes Stadium.
The schedule features a tough slate with four NCAA teams from a year ago, which includes a four-game series against Stony Brook on March 9-10. The Seawolves are coming off a record-setting season, which saw Stony Brook advanced to the College World Series. The Rams will also face off with Manhattan (April 3 & 30), Army (April 10), and Sacred Heart (March 16), who all made the NCAA Championship, last season.
The game against Sacred Heart will be a part of the first-ever Frankie Frisch Invitational, March 15-17, at Houlihan Park. Fordham will host Sacred Heart, NJIT, and Saint Peter’s over the stay of the tournament.
The Rams open the schedule in Florida with a four-game series against the Michigan Wolverines, February 22-24, at the New York Mets Training Complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Fordham will have two other non-conference weekend series, playing at Wichita State (March 1-3) and at Georgia State (April 5-7).
Fordham will also have mid-week road games against Fairleigh Dickinson, Iona, Marist, Albany, and Siena.
Fordham is scheduled to have 24 home games this season, which includes four Atlantic 10 weekend series at Houlihan Park. Other non-conference home games will be against Hofstra, Rutgers, Iona, and Columbia. The games against Columbia will be a doubleheader on April 24.
In conference play, Fordham will have eight Atlantic 10 series, beginning on the road at La Salle, March 22-24, in Philadelphia. The Rams also travel to Saint Joseph’s, Butler, and Massachusetts. Fordham then hosts series against Rhode Island, George Washington, Richmond, and St. Bonaventure.
