College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

The fifth player on our Top 100 countdown is Pepperdine’s Aaron Brown. The Chatsworth, California native broke out as one of the top two-way players in the country in 2012, putting him on the radar of college baseball fans as the 2013 season nears.

However, Brown’s talent wasn’t unnoticed in high school as the Pirates drafted him with their 17th round pick in 2011. Brown originally became one to watch on the college scene after an incredible summer in the California Collegiate League in 2011, where he was absolutely dominant in the CCL All Star Game after just leaving high school.

During his freshman year at Pepperdine, Brown saw time both as a left-handed reliever and in the outfield, where he made 32 starts for the Waves. His success in both the outfield and on the mound earned him a spot on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Midseason Watch List, but he was limited in the second half of the season due to a right thumb injury.

Brown’s raw talent is part of what makes him such an intriguing player. As a left-handed power hitter Brown is a threat at the plate as he aggressively works with the pitches he receives, not being afraid to foul off pitches he doesn’t like, to be as productive as possible. His hitting mentality, in combination with his pure athleticism, keeps his ceiling high.
