College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2013 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

The second player on our Top 100 countdown is Duke’s Andrew Istler. While a strong enough player to see time in both the outfield and on the mound, the Wellington, Florida native’s spark lies in his pitching.

During his freshman campaign at Duke, Istler demonstrated his talents as a two-way player posting a .292 batting average—good for second best on the Blue Devil roster—as well as a 3.63 ERA

After a phenomenal summer in the Coastal Plain League, Istler’s talent as a pitcher certainly did not go unnoticed as he was named the top prospect in the Coastal Plain League by Baseball America after having an ERA of just 0.78.  This also earned Istler the honor of being named a Perfect Game 3rd Team Summer Ball All-American.

As Istler has demonstrated several glimpses of why he would make a stronghold in the Duke rotation this coming season, it’s looking as if 2013 could definitely be his breakout year.
