College Baseball Daily kicks off our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
The first player on the list checking in at number 100 is Seton Hill junior left handed pitcher Alex Haines. The Greensburg, Pennsylvania native attended Hempfield High School before attending Seton Hill.
Haines had an up and down freshman season in 2011 going 4-2 with a 4.01 ERA in eleven appearances including seven starts. He struggled a little bit with his control walking 16 batters while striking out 34 in 33.2 innings pitched.
Haines had a solid sophomore season in 2012 with the Griffins going 7-2 with a 4.24 ERA while striking out 108 batters in 70 innings pitched. He was named the WVIAC Conference Pitcher of the Year while being named Daktronics, ABCA and NCBWA All Region teams as well.
He spent the summer of 2012 in the NECBL with the Vermont Mountaineers where he made nine appearances (seven starts) while going 5-2 record but held an NECBL best 0.90 earned run average and league high 54 strikeouts. He found his control as he walked only six batters in 40 innings pitched.
