WASHINGTON – Dave Lorber has been hired as Assistant Baseball Coach at George Washington University, Associate Head Coach and interim Head Coach Tom Sheridan announced today.

Lorber joins the Colonials after spending the past season at Stony Brook University, where the 2012 Seawolves made an improbable run to the College World Series after winning a school-record 52 games.

“We are very excited add Dave to our staff as we begin the next great chapter of GW Baseball,” said Associate Head Coach and interim Head Coach Tom Sheridan. “He brings a wealth of coaching experience as well as strong recruiting ties in the northeast region. His time at Stony Brook ensures that he knows what it takes to build and maintain a premier program. He is going be a huge asset for us moving forward.”

Lorber primarily worked with outfielders, base runners and hitters for the Seawolves, including 2012 ABCA National Player of the Year and Major League Baseball first-round draft pick Travis Jankowski. Stony Brook also had six other players selected in the MLB draft and had three position players garner All-American honors. Lorber also served as the oncampus recruiting manager and handled day-to-day baseball operations.

“It is an honor to be joining a program with as much history and tradition as George Washington,” said Lorber. “There is a huge sense of enthusiasm in the air with the brand new facilities at Barcroft Park, and I am very excited to be a part of a team that has great potential to succeed this upcoming season and in the future.”

Prior to arriving at Stony Brook, Lorber spent one season at Division II Felician College, where he served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He worked primarily with pitchers, catchers and team defense. Under his tutelage, the Golden Falcons posted a school-record ERA of 3.31, which ranked 30th nationally. Felician also finished the season ranked 21st nationally in strikeouts per nine innings and 20th in hits allowed per nine innings.

A 2008 graduate of Central Connecticut State, Lorber also made coaching stops at Division III Eastern University and Brookdale Community College (Lincroft, N.J.) where he played key roles in player development and recruiting at both schools.

He was a two-year letterwinner at CCSU, helping the Blue Devils to the finals of the 2007 Northeast Conference Championship Tournament. Prior to playing at CCSU, he helped Division II Brookdale Community College (NJCAA) to the 2005 NJCAA World Series as a two-year starter and two-time All-Region and All-Conference selection.
