JONESBORO, Ark. (7/7/2012) —Arkansas State head baseball coach Tommy Raffo announced Saturday that Anthony Everman has joined the Red Wolves staff as an assistant coach. Everman fills the position vacated by former assistant Chris Cook, who became the head coach at New Mexico Military Institute following the 2012 season.

A native of Castalia, Iowa, Everman brings 10 years of collegiate coaching experience to the ASU staff, including one year at Arkansas State, where he served as a volunteer assistant during the 2009 season. Everman will work primarily with infielders and assist with hitting at ASU.

Most recently, he was an assistant at Garden City Community College during the 2012 season, while also serving as an associate scout for the Cleveland Indians during the past year. After leaving Arkansas State following the 2009 season, he was an assistant coach at Kansas State during the 2010 season, and an assistant at Northern Colorado in 2011.

“I am very happy that Anthony will be re-joining our staff here at Arkansas State,” said Raffo. “He has a passion for ASU baseball, did an excellent job when he was our volunteer assistant in 2009, and has certainly done very well as an assistant in the three years he has been gone. He is a very good fit for our staff and will work well with our players as we continue to move forward at a high level.”

While an assistant at Kansas State, he helped guide the Wildcats to a berth in the 2010 NCAA Tournament, and has coached in the post-season in five other seasons as well. He also spent time on the coaching staffs at Virginia Tech, Loras (Iowa) College and Ferrum (Va.) College. He also brings a wealth of NCAA-sanctioned summer league experience to ASU, managing the Covington (Va.) Lumberjacks for two seasons, winning the league championship in 2005.

“I am very excited to be returning to Arkansas State,” said Everman. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for Coach Raffo, and I am anxious to get back to Jonesboro and join his staff and begin work. I think it is obvious that Coach Raffo has had a tremendous impact on the baseball program at Arkansas State, and I look forward to helping the Red Wolves work toward a Sun Belt Conference championship.”

Everman graduated with a degree in Physical Education from Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, where he played baseball and was an All-Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Academic selection on two occasions. He earned his Masters of Science in Physical Education from Virginia Tech in 2005.
