Dylan Stuart After Shutout Gives Riverside First Ever Series Win at Fullerton

Dylan Stuart was lights out.FULLERTON, Calif. — Sophomore left hander Dylan Stuart pitched a complete game gem Sunday evening at Goodwin Field, leading UC Riverside to a 1-0 win against No. 8 Cal State Fullerton.

The victory gave the Highlanders (21-28, 9-12) their first series win against Fullerton (33-18, 15-6) since 2007 and first weekend series at Goodwin Field ever.

Stuart scattered six hits and a pair of walks and benifitted from a couple of nice defensive plays behind him, including a dynamic diving stop by third baseman Alex Rubanowitz with the tying run on third base on the final play of the game.

After the game, I talked with Stuart about coming out on top of the pitcher’s duel with Fullerton’s Grahamm Wiest.

Stuart talked about the importance of a series win at Fullerton is to the Riverside program, especially giving the Highlanders some momentum going into the offseason after a rough year. He also discussed the tremendous performance by his defense, including Rubanowitz diving play to end the game:
