Matt Foat commits an error.LOS ANGELES — An early pitcher’s duel turned into a late blowout as Arizona took the series opener Friday night 11-1 at USC’s Dedeaux Field.

After both teams managed only three hits through five innings, Bobby Brown tripled home a pair of runs in the sixth inning and a crucial error by Matt Foat in the seventh inning (pictured left) allowed Arizona to break open the game. The Wildcats scored nine runs from the sixth through eighth innings.

It was more than enough for starter Kurt Heyer, who allowed one run over eight strong innings to pick up his 10th win of the season. Ben Mount took the loss after giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings.

Joey Rickard set the table for the Wildcats with three hits from the leadoff spot in the lineup. Riley Moore also had a multi-hit game while Brown, Robert Refsnyder and Alex Mejia each had multiple RBIs.
