TCU (29-16) slides up 2 spots to take over #1 for week 12. The Horned Frogs went 3-1 on the week beating Oklahoma 4-3 Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 vs New Mexico in MWC play. TCU and New Mexico are now tied atop the MWC standings at 13-5 and having split their 6 games.
Purdue (35-9) fall’s just one spot to #2 after dropping 2 of 3 at UCLA. The Boilermakers lost Friday 5-1 and Saturday 3-2 and were down 10-5 heading to the 9th on Sunday. Purdue then scored 10 runs in the top of 9th inning and won 15-11.
Utah Valley (35-11) moves up one spot to #23 after going 5-0 (1-0 vs Utah, 4-0 at Houston Baptist) on the week and extending their win streak to 28 games. Their last lost was 45 days ago a 13-3 loss to Sacramento St Thursday March 22 and they were just 7-11 overall. The NCAA Division 1 record is 34 consecutive wins held by Texas in 1977 and Florida Atlantic in 1999.
RISING
Dallas Baptist (34-14) climbs 7 spots to #5 with a 5-0 week. The Patriots swept a home and home with UT-Arlington mid week before sweeping Evansville on the weekend.
Indiana St (36-12) moves up 4 spots to #11 after taking 2 of 3 from Wichita St in Missouri Valley play. The Sycamores now are just a ½ game behind Missouri St for 1st place in the MVC.
SE Louisiana (33-16) climbs 4 spots to #12 with a 3-1 week. The Lions picked up a 6-3 win at South Alabama Tuesday and won 2 of 3 vs Stephen F. Austin in SLC play. After splitting the first 2 games SE Louisiana could not afford to drop another series setting up a must win Sunday. SE Louisiana scored 7 runs in btm 6th to take a 10-9 lead only to see Stephen F. Austin score single runs in 7th and 8th to take an 11-10 lead to btm of 9th. SE Louisiana scored 2 runs in bottom of 9th on 3 errors and no hits to win 12-11.
Samford (32-17) slides up 2 places to #16 after a 3-1 week. The Bulldogs beat Troy 15-4 on Tuesday and won 2 of 3 at Georgia Southern in Southern Conference play. All 3 games at GSU were decided by a single run with Samford winning 5-4 Friday, 6-5 Saturday and Georgia Southern winning Sunday 3-2. The Bulldogs have won 12 of 15 games to get back in contention in the SOCON setting up big series vs App St next weekend.
SC Upstate(32-14) moves up 2 spots to #21 after a 3-2 week. The Spartans lost 7-6 at Wofford and won 15-3 at Georgia St mid week. The Spartans traveled to Stetson in big A-Sun series and won 2 of 3. SC Upstate is in 1st place in A-Sun 2 games in front of Belmont and 3 games in front of Stetson and Kennesaw St.
FALLING
College of Charleston (31-15) slides 2 spots to #9 losing the first games at Clemson. The Cougars dropped Saturday’s opener at Clemson 4-3 in 13 innings. CofC took a 3-2 lead in the top of 13th on Daniel Aldrich’s 3rd double of game. Clemson entered the btm of 13th without a hit since the 2nd inning. After a 1 out single, FC and intentional BB but runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs former CofC player Thomas Brittle hit a 0-2 pitch into left for single and tie ball game. A wild pitch to next batter brought home the winning run. After that heartbreaking loss Clemson won Sunday’s game 12-3.
Sam Houston St (32-15) falls 5 spots to #10 after a 1-3 week. The Bearkats lost 10-0 vs Texas A&M Tuesday and lost 2 of 3 at UT-Arlington in Southland Conference play. It was the first SLC series loss of the year and Sam Houston St still has a 3 game lead over SE Louisiana.
New Mexico St (30-17) drops 7 to #13 with a 0-4 week. The Aggies lost 12-7 to Texas St Tuesday before traveling to the island and getting swept by Hawaii in WAC play. They have now lost 6 games in a row and their once NCAA lock is not so much.
Stetson (31-17) falls 10 spots to #19 after a 1-3 week. The week started with a 5-4 loss in 13 innings to Central Florida on Wednesday and ended with an 11-6 loss to SC Upstate on Sunday. The Hatters lost Friday’s opener 8-4 and evened the series with 6-3 win on Saturday before the 11-6 loss Sunday. The preseason favorite is tied for 3rd in A-Sun at 12-9 and more than likely has to win the conference tourney to get in a regional.
