MALIBU, Calif. — Pitcher Abe Bobb threw a four-hit, two-run complete game to lead San Francisco to a 7-2 win over Pepperdine Friday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium.
Bobb allowed a leadoff single in the first before retiring 18 hitters in a row. A single in the seventh inning led to an unearned run and Bobb allowed a run in the ninth inning on a single and a double. That was the extent of Pepperdine’s offensive attack as Bobb mixed his pitches and attacked the Waves’ hitters with his fastball.
He struck out five.
After his first complete game, I talked to Bobb about the outing.
Bobb discussed how he attacked the hitters with his sinker early in the game and then used more off-speed pitches in the later innings. He also talked about filling in for staff ace Kyle Zimmer, who is nursing a hamstring injury and will not pitch this weekend, and the team’s enthusiasm in the dugout:

He also spent the 2010 summer in Cape Town, South Africa covering sports for the Cape Community Papers during the first FIFA World Cup held on African soil.
