Purdue (34-7) is #1 for the 5th consecutive week. The Boilermakers went 3-1 on week, winning 3-2 at Illinois St on Tuesday and winning 2 of 3 from Michigan St in Big 10 play. Purdue has a 3 ½ game lead in Big 10 and steps out of conference play this weekend for HUGE series at UCLA.
RISING
- Louisville (31-13) climbs two spots to #2 after beating Kentucky mid week and winning 2 of 3 vs UCONN in Big East series. The Cardinals beat Kentucky 10-2 on Tuesday to sweep the home and home series with the Wildcats outscoring 22-2 in the two games.
- College of Charleston (31-13) slides up 1 spot to #7 winning 2 of 3 at Western Carolina. In Fridays 5-4 win sophomore OF Daniel Aldrich hit 3 HRs and all 5 RBIs. Since losing 2 of 3 at App St, April 6-8, the Cougars have won 10 of 12 and are percentage points behind App St in SoCon.
- Stetson (29-14) moves up 3 spots to #9 with a 3-1 week. The Hatters beat Bethune-Cookman 9-8 Tuesday and won 2 of 3 at North Florida in A-Sun play. Stetson is now in 3rd place in the A-Sun 1 game behind 2nd place Belmont and 2 games behind 1st place USC Upstate, who travels to Stetson this weekend.
- Coastal Carolina (30-13) climbs 6 spots to #13 after a great week. The Chanticleers went on the road for 4 games, winning 10-7 at Clemson Tuesday and sweeping Liberty in their Big South series. Coastal has won 10 of 12 including 6 in a row.
FALLING
- San Diego (33-11) slides down 2 spots to #4 with a 2-2 week. The Toreros beat UC Riverside mid week and traveled to Portland where they lost 2 of 3 to the Pilots. With San Diego’s series loss at Portland combined with other results has put 7 teams within 3 games of 1st place in the WCC.
- Dallas Baptist (29-14) drops 3 spots to #12. The Patriots picked up a nice 8-2 win at Oklahoma Wednesday then traveled to Wichita St and lost 2 of 3 to the Shockers. Dallas Baptist wraps up a tough 8 game road trip Tuesday at UT-Arlington which they have gone 3-4, losing back to back weekend series at Indiana St and Wichita St.
- Gonzaga (27-14) falls 4 places to #14. The Bulldogs lost 2 of 3 vs Loyola-Marymount this weekend. All 3 games were 1 run games including Saturdays 1-0 win in 12 innings. Sophomore LHP/INF Marco Gonzales turned in probably the best performance of year in college baseball on Saturday with 11 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 15 K in a no decision. Gonzaga led 3-1 going to the 9th in Sunday’s rubber match but LMU scored 3 runs in the top of 9th for a 4-3 win and series win. The Bulldogs have now lost 5 of their last 6 WCC games to fall to 7th place.
- Florida Atlantic (26-17) drops 6 spots to #19 after a 1-3 week. The Owls lost 3-1 Tuesday at Miami before losing 2 of 3 at Troy. FAU’s lead is 2 games over 2nd place Arkansas St in Sun Belt and it looks like the Owls will need to win the tourney for an NCAA berth.

IN
- UNCW (27-17) enter the rankings at #20. The Seahawks beat Elon 7-5 Wednesday and won 2 of 3 at Georgia St over the weekend. UNCW has won 11 of 13 and is 3 games up on 2nd place Hofstra in the Colonial.
- New Mexico (26-19) comes in at #22. The Lobos split 2 mid week games with Texas Tech and swept UNLV in Mountain West play. After a 16-12 loss at New Mexico St March 6th the Lobos were 2-9. Since they have gone 24-10 and won 10 of last 12 putting them 1 game up on TCU in the MWC and hold the tie breaker over TCU by winning 2 of 3.
- Utah Valley (30-11) enters the rankings at #24. The Wolverines won all 4 games vs New Jersey Tech to extend their current win streak to a very impressive 23 games. They can tie Baylor’s 24 game win streak for longest of season with win vs Utah Tuesday. They are 16-0 in the Great West Conference but because the Great West does not get an automatic bid they will not get in a regional. They have been impressive none the less.

how is the big east and big 10 a mid major and conference usa isn’t? Shouldn’t they all not be a mid major conference? I’m just a little confused
The answer is very easy. The definition we use and 99.9% of college baseball people use is any team and conference outside of the “big 6” conferences. (ACC, CUSA, Big 12, Big West, Pac 12, and SEC). There has been a large gap between those 6 and everyone else for years. With the changing land scape of college football and schools moving that will more than likely change. The Big West is having a very rare bad year and the WCC is having a very very good year.
While the Big East is best basketball conference and Big 10 is one of the largest and best football conferences both are not very good in baseball. They are not even top 10 baseball conferences. Look at just this years rankings and this is with Purdue having a unbelievable year.Â

 What does St. John’s have to do to get some consideration? I would think they would at least receive some votes.
St Johns is on there. They have a tough 2 weeks coming up vs South Florida and at Louisville. The only Big East team im sold on is Louisville and will see what St Johns is really like in 2 weeks.
