Video: Kyle Zimmer Thankful for Some Run Support

Kyle Zimmer pitches to Alex Guthrie.LOS ANGELES — San Francisco took the series opener from West Coast Conference foe Loyola Marymount 13-9 Saturday afternoon at Page Stadium.

The Dons (15-22, 2-5) didn’t get the typical stellar outing from ace pitcher Kyle Zimmer (3-3), but the offense picked up the slack. The offense provided Zimmer with five runs in the third inning and 12 runs overall — the most support he’s received all season.

Zimmer pitched seven innings, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out five LMU (14-15, 4-3) batters.

After the game, I talked with Zimmer about his shaky performance and the offense stepping up for him. We also chatted about his pitching repertoire and how he likes to pitch off his fastball, which he struggled to locate at times on Saturday leading to some of Loyola Marymount’s hits.:
