Miles Silverstein lines a single.MALIBU, Calif. — Pepperdine barely broke a sweat Tuesday afternoon at Eddy D. Field Stadium. The Waves (16-5) dominated Long Beach State 12-2, using two big innings to put the game out of reach early.

Matt Maurer moved to 4-0 on the season with six scoreless innings. He gave up only four hits and two walks while striking out one.

“For me, I just have to come out and throw strikes. I know we’re going to put up runs,” Maurer said. “As you can see, we’re putting up 12, 15 runs a game every time I come out, so as long as I throw strikes and keep the game semi-close, we’re going to win.”

With one out in the third inning, Pepperdine blew open the game by sending the entire lineup up to bat without recording an out. The Waves scored six runs on six hits and three hits batsmen before Long Beach State (6-13) was able to record the second and third outs of the inning.

In the fifth inning, another five Waves’ runs went on the board with one out. After Aaron Brown doubled, Bryan Langlois was hit by a pitch. Four consecutive singles made it 10-0 and following a walk, Floyd Given, for the second time, drove in a run with a bases loaded hit by pitch.

With the game out of hand early, both coaches emptied the rosters to get some younger players some experience. In total, the teams combined to use 42 different players.

Zach Vincej, Joe Sever, Miles Silverstein, Kolten Yamaguchi and Langlois each had a pair of hits for Pepperdine and drove in at least one run. Matt Gelalich also singled home a pair of runs.

For the Dirtbags, Jeff Yamaguchi knocked three hits and had Long Beach State’s only RBI of the game. Nick Sabo (0-3) took the loss.
