On Friday evening, Holy Cross hung tight with #4 ranked Texas A&M, losing 3-2 in 11 innings. Saturday afternoon, Holy Cross got their revenge.

Holy Cross rallied, scoring four runs in the 10th inning to beat Texas A&M, 7-3. The win is believed to be the program’s first win against a top five ranked team since the 1950s, according to a member of the Holy Cross sports information department.

The Aggies got out to a quick start, scoring on walk with bases loaded by Jace Statum. In the top of the second, Jordan Enos hit a home run to score three runs for the Crusaders.

Both teams’ bats were quiet until the fifth, when the Aggies’ Mikey Reynolds was walked after being hit by a Holy Cross pitch. Tyler Naquin advanced Reynolds to third after a hit, and then a Jacob House hit allowed him to score to bring the Aggies within one. In the sixth inning, Brandon Wood pinch hit to bring in a Statum run to tie the game at three.

The game stayed knotted until the top of the tenth, when Chris Sintetos’ hit allowed Alex Maldonado to score to give Holy Cross the lead. Mike Ahmed, Sintetos and Enos scored in the extra frame to secure the win for the Crusaders.

Texas A&M starter Ross Stripling allowed three runs on six hits and struck out ten batters in seven innings of work. Holy Cross’ Matt Croglio and Tommy Marra each pitched four innings in regulation, while Ahmed earned the win with his 1.2 innings of work at the end of the game.

The two teams will meet again Sunday afternoon at Texas A&M’s Blue Bell Park at 12:05pm Central Time.
