ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech Athletic Association announced Thursday that head baseball coach Danny Hall, who is closing in on his 1,000th career victory and ranks among the winningest coaches in college baseball, has been awarded a five-year contract extension through 2016.

Now in his 25th season as a head coach and 19th on the Flats, Hall is nine victories shy of becoming just the 46th Division-I baseball coach to reach 1,000 career wins. Entering 2012, he was ranked in the top 15 among active Division-I coaches in winning percentage, and in the top 20 among active D-I coaches in number of victories.

“Danny does a great job of getting the best from his team each and every year,” said Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich. “He is an outstanding teacher of the game who develops his players in every way. He prepares them for success in baseball and in life. Georgia Tech is fortunate to have Danny continue to lead our baseball program into the future and we are proud to have him accomplish such a milestone as a Yellow Jacket.”

Hall, 57, is 991-467-1 as a head coach, including six seasons at Kent State. At Tech, Hall’s record is 783-350-1.

“I’m excited about the contract extension and it’s something that allows me to keep doing what I love in a place that I love,” said Hall. “I’m very thankful to Dan Radakovich and Wayne Hogan for the confidence they continue to show in me and my staff and I’m thankful to the Georgia Tech community for how they have treated me and my family. I certainly feel like we have a lot of work to do to keep making the program better and better, and I’m excited for the opportunity to continue that here at Georgia Tech.”

Under Hall, Georgia Tech has averaged 43.3 wins per season, the 10th-highest figure in the nation over the last 18 years. With Hall at the helm, the Yellow Jackets have made the school’s first three College World Series appearances (1994, 2002, 2006), claimed three Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament titles (2000, 2003, 2005) and five ACC regular season championships (1997, 2000, 2004, 2005, 2011).

Hall, a three-time Atlantic Coast Conference Coach of the Year, has seen a staggering 97 of his players selected in the Major League Baseball Draft a total of 107 times. Twelve of his student-athletes have been selected in either the first or supplemental rounds, while he has coached 49 players that have been taken in the first 10 rounds of the MLB draft.

In addition to two National Players of the Year – Jason Varitek in 1994 and Mark Teixeira in 2002, 27 All-America selections, four ACC Players of the Year, one ACC Pitcher of the Year, five ACC Rookies of the Year, and 79 All-ACC picks, the Yellow Jackets have had 30 mentions on the All-ACC Academic Team, 18 earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and 10 named Academic All-America.

Hall graduated from Miami University (Ohio) in 1977 and received a master’s degree from MU in 1979. He was selected to the Miami’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998, the Kent State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2005 and was inducted into the Miami Cradle of Coaches in 2007.
