Miami (FL) Alumni Game

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The University of Miami baseball team hosted its 2012 Fanfest and Alumni Game on Saturday night at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park.

World Series champion outfielder Jon Jay, Minnesota Twins third baseman Danny Valencia, Oakland Athletics infielder Jemile Weeks and Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez were among the star-studded ProCanes alumni group in attendance.

Hawai’i Varsity 13 Alumni 1

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai’i Rainbow baseball program held its annual Alumni game Saturday, with the varsity defeating the former ‘Bows, 13-1. UH scored all of its runs in the first three innings to win handily.

Matt Sisto pitched six complete innings for the Rainbows allowing one run on two hits with a pair of strikeouts. Freshman Lawrence Chew pitched the final two innings of the eight-inning ball game, allowing no hits and no runs with two strikeouts.

Breland Almadova led UH at the plate, hitting 5-5 with three runs and two RBI. A.J. Bayus went 3-3 with one run and two RBI, and Collin Bennett added two hits, two runs, and three RBI.

New Mexico State Varsity 20 Alumni 0

LAS CRUCES – The 2012 Aggie baseball team handled the Aggie Alumni winning 20-0, Saturday, Feb. 11 at Presely Askew Field.

The NM State ball club posted 20 runs on 13 hits and didn’t commit a single error. The Aggies saw a home run from junior third baseman Bobby LeCount, a three-run shot from junior catcher Patrick McMeel, and grand slams from junior Kyle Phillips and senior Andy Lyon.

Houston Varsity 4 Alumni 0

HOUSTON–Baseball Fan Appreciation Day at Cougar Field was full of excitement as 54 former Cougar standouts graced Cougar Field on Saturday and took part in the Alumni Game against the 2012 Houston Cougars under the direction of second-year head coach Todd Whitting.

Interaction among the former and current players and coaches began about three hours prior to the 2 p.m. start and concluded with an autograph session highlighting this year’s ball club.

Texas Tech Varsity 6 Alumni 0

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech junior right-handed pitcher Shane Broyles tossed 4.1 perfect innings with eight strikeouts to lead the Red Raiders to a 6-0 victory over its alumni on Saturday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park.

It marked the third annual Texas Tech baseball alumni game as the Red Raiders improved to 3-0 all-time with a 21-1 victory in 2010 and a 12-2 advantage last season.

Texas Tech welcomed back a group of alumni that included 11 players who had been drafted/signed free agent and four players who were named All-Americans at Tech. In fact, seven of the alums 10 starters had been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft, or signed as a free agent.

Cal-State Fullerton Varsity 3 Alumni 2

Fullerton, Calif. – More than 80 former Titan players and a crowd of about 750 assembled Saturday afternoon at Goodwin Field to see Coach Rick Vanderhook’s debut as Cal State Fullerton baseball coach. The 2012 varsity responded with a 3-2 victory over the alumni, whichincluded 18 current or former major leaguers.

Four Titan pitchers combined to check the alumni on 5 hits. Freshman lefthander Kenny Matthews from Diamond Bar High School got the win with three shutout innings. Redshirt freshman Grahamm Wiest started and allowed one run and two hits over four innings. Junior Dimitri DeLaFuente pitched a scoreless eighth and freshman Jose Cardona got the save allowing only a tainted run in the ninth.
