Texas LHP Sam Stafford Out for the Season

Per reports from Hookem.com’s Alan Trubow, Texas RHP Sam Stafford could miss the 2012 season due to a shoulder injury. Stafford, a second round pick in the 2011 draft by the New York Yankees, returned to Austin after the Yankees had questions about the same shoulder that is reportedly injured. After experiencing tightness in his shoulder recently, Stafford underwent an MRI and was greeted with less-than great news.

Last week, Texas lost starting CF Cohl Walla to an ACL injury suffered in practice, and found out Orange Coast College transfer OF Matt Moynihan would be ruled ineligible for 2012.

The possible loss of Stafford would mean the Longhorns would play this season without their top three starters from last seasons World Series team. Junior LHP Hoby Milner would likely be the Friday starter in Stafford’s absence, with sophomore RHP Nathan Thornhill and freshman RHP John Curtiss throwing on Saturday and Sunday.

UPDATE: Looks like it is a torn labrum for Stafford.
