Albany releases 2012 Schedule

Albany, N.Y. – University at Albany head baseball coach Jon Mueller announced the program’s 2012 schedule on Friday, January 13, 2012. The Great Danes, who advanced to the America East Conference championship game last season, will play three-game series’ with pre-season #14 Miami and Coastal Carolina on the road, and will host nine opponents at Varsity Field.

UAlbany starts the season the last weekend in February, visiting four-time National Champion Miami, before traveling to South Carolina from March 2-4 for single games with Wofford (3/2), USC Upstate (3/3) and Gardner-Webb (3/4). The Great Danes will also make early-season trips to Fordham (March 7), NYIT (March 10-11) and Central Connecticut State (March 14). The team will visit St. John’s for a two-game series on March 16-17, and will also play two games against Holy Cross on the Red Storm’s field.

The Great Danes host their first home game of the season on March 20, welcoming Marist to Varsity Field for a single game. UAlbany will then make a three-game road trip to Coastal Carolina (March 23-25), before hosting in-state opponent Cornell for a doubleheader on March 27. A three-game series at Massachusetts will close out March and usher in April, and UAlbany will visit Hofstra on April 4 before starting league play. In further non-conference play, the Great Danes will return a trip to Marist (April 10) and host Manhattan (April 25) and Hofstra (May 9).

The Great Danes kick off the America East season with the first of the home-and-home series with Hartford on the road on April 7-8. The Hawks will return the trip to end the season on May 18-19. UAlbany’s other home-and-home conference series is with Maine, as the team visits Orono on April 28-29 before welcoming the Black Bears on May 5-6. The Great Danes will also play three four-game series’ with the other three America East programs, hosting Stony Brook on April 14-15 and traveling to UMBC (April 21-22) and Binghamton (May 11-12).

The America East Championship will take played May 23-26 at the home field of the tournament’s highest seed.
