College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 20 with Georgia Tech junior RHP Buck Farmer. The Conyers, Georgia native attended Rockdale High School where he was a four year letterwinner and a three time captain under coach Casey Martin. He was named All-State, All-District and All-Area all four years of high school (2006-2009) while posting an ERA of 2.02 as a senior and 1.50 as a junior. He broke the school record for strikeouts in a game in 2008 when he struck out 22 against Dacula High School. He was drafted by his hometown Atlanta Braves in the 45th round of the 2009 MLB Draft Pick but elected to enroll at Georgia Tech.

As a freshman in 2010, he went 5-1 with an ERA of 3.63 ERA in 19 appearances (three starts). He had 49 strikeouts in 52.0 innings, and held opponents to just a .209 batting average.

Buck’s sophomore season saw him serve as the Yellow Jackets Sunday starter where he went 11-3 with a 2.82 ERA while tossing two complete games. In ACC play, he went 8-1 with a 3.03 ERA. His eight wins were the most of any ACC pitcher in the 2011 season.

He spent the summer of 2011 in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Chatham Anglers. He made four starts where he struggled going 2-1 with a 5.57 ERA.

I expected Farmer to show up sooner or later on your list…no doubt a solid choice for the top 30 or 20 at least … he has a real nose for the game and ‘out thinks’ batters quite often. so, good choice . you have alot of pitcher in your list … batters are the other side of the equation. where are all the “pure batters” with ultra high OBP, and so on … ? . this is the other side of the equation here . its not all about the pitch in my opinion.

True…I do tend to have a lot of pitchers this year. I didn’t look at how many pitchers vs hitters we had on the list but just ranked them based on my staff’s opinions. Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®
