ARLINGTON, Va. – The first phase of the multi-million dollar renovation to Barcroft Park, the home field of the George Washington baseball team, is underway. Initial demolition is complete and construction has commenced in preparation for the 2012 season.

The existing structure, including the dugouts, backstop, fencing and scoreboard, has been demolished and the initial stages of artificial turf installation has begun. The venue is expected to be completed in Spring, 2012.

As a result of the agreement between George Washington University and the Arlington County Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department (PRCR), Barcroft Park will receive new turf, stadium seating and other amenities, including a press box and concessions area, as well as new dugouts and bullpens.

A grand re-opening for Barcroft Park is being planned for early Spring when the Colonials return to the diamond.
