Mystic out of the NECBL?

The Mystic Schooners of the NECBL moved before last season from Bristol CT to Fitch High School in Groton Connecticut. The team struggled in their first season at Fitch High School going 18-24 and missing the playoffs but the real issues with the squad have come during this offseason.

The Mystic organization had an anonymous donor give the team a donation of 500,000 for improvements to the Fitch High School field. When the project went out for bid, the quote was for $640,000 in which the difference still hasn’t been paid to the contractors. Currently, the team has defaulted on their deal with town on the project which could see the team being shut down. If the team is shut down for the 2012 season, it would leave the NECBL with nine teams as Old Orchard closed up shop this fall.

Wouldn’t it leave the league with ten teams? It had 12 last season.
