Top 100 Countdown: 40. Chase McDonald (East Carolina)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 40 with East Carolina first baseman Chase McDonald. The 6’4 250 pound first baseman hails from Greenville, North Carolina and attended J.H. Rose High School. He was a four-year letterwinner for head coach Ronald Vincent. His senior season saw him hit 12 home runs and batting .510 for the Rampants on his way to team MVP and All-State honors. Heading into his senior season, he was named a Under Armour Preseason All-American.

McDonald had a strong freshman season for the East Carolina Pirates hitting .314 with four homers and 31 RBI.

He spent the summer of 2011 in the Coastal Plains League playing for the Morehead City Marlins. He finished the season leading the league in batting average (.403), RBIs (51), slugging percentage (.663) and on-base percentage (.469). McDonald was second in the league in home runs (13) and total bases (120), while his 73 hits was the third-best mark in the CPL during 2011. He also had eight doubles, scored 36 runs and was walked 22 times. He was named to the CPL All-Star game while honored as the top offensive player in the league.
