College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 41 with South Carolina junior infielder Christian Walker. The Limerick, Pennsylvania native attended Kennedy-Kenrick High School. As a senior, he hit .588 while being named to the 2009 Philadelphia Inquirer All-S.E. Pennsylvania team. He ended up drafted in the 2009 MLB Draft in the 49th Round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He decided to spurn the Dodgers offer and head to South Carolina.

Walker stepped right into the South Carolina as a freshman becoming an everyday starter appearing in 61 games (51 starts) while hitting .327 with nine homers and 51 RBI. He was named a Freshman All-American by Baseball America, College World Series All-Tournament Team and to the SEC All-Freshman Team.

Christian continued to dominate throughout his sophomore season leading the Gamecocks in all three triple crown categories hitting at .358 with ten homers and 62 RBI. He picked up several awards including being named a third-team All-American by Baseball America, Second-team All-SEC honors, SEC All-Defensive Team, and College World Series All-Tournament Team. Walker participated in the entire College World Series with a broken hamate bone which did not allow him to play this summer with the 2011 USA Collegiate National Team.

Only #41? Helped lead SC to 2 Championships, 2 time World Series team, SEC Defensive team. Proven clutch hitter, and led SC in all Offensive stats. All with a broken hand. Def top 10 as a junior.

You are entitled to your opinion. Walker still needs to prove himself with a wood bat.. Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®

Brian , you and your staff really need to do a better job on this list. you are ranking kids  based on projectability with wood bats but you call it the top 100 college players, who hit with metal. if you were smart, all you needed to do to see CW’s  stats from using wood would been to look at his numbers from  07 and 08 from Jupiter,fl. at the world wood bat national championships. Walker has been killing it with wood since he was a freshman in high school. EVERYONE KNOWS THIS BUT YOU AND YOUR STAFF.You really need to make this your last year with this list, because you are really making yourselves look bush.

I agree with Bhanten. The preamble to this list says “Here is College Baseball Daily’s annual look at the top players in college baseball.” College ballplayers don’t play with wood bats, so shouldn’t Christian and the others be ranked based on college ability? If you’re projecting to the pros, different story, but you need a different disclaimer.
