Brown releases 2012 Schedule

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown baseball head coach Marek Drabinski has announced the 2012 schedule, and a demanding early season nonconference slate will once again serve to prepare the Bears for the Ivy League schedule. Brown will square off against NCAA Regional participant FIU to open the season on March 2, before opening its Ivy portion on March 31 at Penn. The Bears will also host 2011 NCAA qualifier Maine at Murray Stadium on March 22, in the team’s home-opener after making their annual eight-game, West Coast road-trip. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 Countdown: 75. Dominic Ficociello (Arkansas)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 75 with Arkansas Dominic Ficociello. The sophomore switch hitting infielder hails from Fullerton, California where he attended Fullerton Union High School. He was a four year starter for the school. His best season came as a junior when he hit .495 batting average, 10 homers and 36 RBI. The Detroit Tigers selected him in the 23rd round of the MLB Draft in 2010 but he decided to attend Arkansas. Read the rest of this entry »

ASU appeal Denied; Ineligible for 2012 Postseason

Arizona State appeal of their one year postseason ban has been denied. This means that the Sun Devils will be ineligible for the 2012 postseason for violations that occurred under previous head coach Pat Murphy. College Baseball Daily will have more information as it becomes available.

University of New Mexico Releases 2012 Schedule

The University of New Mexico released its 2012 baseball schedule on Wednesday. The Mountain West conference member will play 32 home games this season at Isotopes Park as a part of a 56 game regular season schedule.

The Lobos will start play February 17th with a home series against Nevada. Their mettle will be tested three weeks into the season, when they host 2011 powerhouse Oklahoma on March 2nd. Read the rest of this entry »

North Florida Releases 2012 Schedule Chock Full Of Tournament Teams

The University of North Florida released their 2012 baseball schedule on Wednesday afternoon. The Atlantic Sun school will host 27 games on their home field, Dusty Rhodes Field at Harmon Stadium.

The Ospreys schedule kicks of February 17th against Southern Illinois. In March and April, the team will host Florida, national runners-up this past season. North Florida will also face 2011 NCAA Tournament teams Bethune-Cookman, Georgia Southern and Stetson. Read the rest of this entry »

CBD Journal with Furman’s Drake Browne (November 1st): The Banana Split Series

This season, Furman pitcher Drake Browne will be writing a journal for College Baseball Daily. Here is his second entry.

Here at FU, we bring Fall Practice to an end by competing in a “World Series.”  This is common for Division-1 programs, but the Paladins do it a little differently than most.

“The Banana Split Series” was the brainchild of our head coach Ron Smith.  The name came from everyone’s favorite treat, the banana split, which is the reward to each member of the winning squad (at the losing team’s expense of course.)
