CBD Journal with URI’s Mike Le Bel (November 7th)

Hello Everyone,

On October 27, 2011, the University of Rhode Island baseball team lost a teammate and a brother, Joseph Paul Ciancola.  I want to start by saying that, on behalf of the Rhody baseball team, our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Ciancola family.

Although under the most unfortunate of circumstances, I recently had the pleasure of meeting Joey’s family, and I now know where he got his smile, strength and love.  Michele Ciancola, Joey’s mother, has been an incredible inspiration to all of us throughout this difficult time.  Her strength is unmatched.

UMBC releases 2012 Schedule

Penn releases 2012 Schedule

Top 100 Countdown: 74. Joey Rickard (Arizona)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 74 with Arizona junior outfielder Joey Rickard. The Las Vegas, Nevada native attended Bishop Gorman High School where he was a member of four straight state championship squads. As a senior, he hit .554 with 23 doubles, seven home runs, 62 RBI and 29 stolen bases. He was also an accomplished pitcher as he accumulated 53 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched with an ERA of 1.92. Read the rest of this entry »

Oklahoma adds Jack Giese to Coaching Staff

NORMAN, Okla. — Jack Giese (pronounced GEESE-ee), who spent the last two years as a pitching coach in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization, was named to the Sooners’ baseball staff by head coach Sunny Golloway on Sunday.

Giese worked the past two seasons with the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Rays’ Class A affiliate, and also previously held scouting positions with the Milwaukee Brewers and Cincinnati Reds. Read the rest of this entry »

Missouri joins the SEC

The long rumored SEC move by the Missouri Tigers has officially been announced by the Missouri athletic department. The Missouri baseball squad is coming off a 27-32 campaign which saw them finish in eighth place with a 11-15 Big 12 conference record. St. Mary’s Reaches Out to the Community

MORAGA, Calif. – The Saint Mary’s baseball team held its annual community service event on Sunday, October 23. The Gaels hosted 70 kids ranging from 8-13 who were members of the Lamorinda Baseball Academy for three hours of drills, tips and one on one coaching. Read the rest of this entry »

Cal State Northridge releases 2012 Schedule

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – An early-season tournament in San Diego and the first-ever meetings with Indiana and Rhode Island at Matador Field highlight the 2012 Cal State Northridge baseball schedule, head coach Matt Curtis announced Friday. UCSB releases 2012 Schedule

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The UC Santa Barbara baseball team has released its 2012 schedule and the 56-game slate features some quality opponents – including five postseason teams from a season ago – that the Gauchos will face both home and away.
