Top 100 Countdown: 62. Dillon Overton (Oklahoma)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 62 with Oklahoma sophomore Dillon Overton. The Weatherford, Oklahoma native attended Weatherford High School where he was a four year letterwinner. His senior year saw him throw 97 innings accumulating a 15-2 record with 164 strikeouts and 19 walks. He was also an accomplished hitter with a .485 batting average with 17 home runs, 64 runs batted in, 15 doubles, three triples and two stolen bases during his senior season. Saint Joseph’s releases 2012 Schedule

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Joseph’s head baseball coach Fritz Hamburg has announced the Hawks’ 2012 schedule, which features 26 home contests on the 54-game slate. Duke Takes on Community Service Projects

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team split up into three groups to tackle several community service projects last Saturday, November 12.

“Community service is an important component of our baseball program,” said head coach Sean McNally. “I am very proud that our players have embraced this aspect of our program and have chosen to impact Duke and the surrounding Durham community in different ways this past weekend. Top 100 Countdown: 63. Kyle Zimmer (San Francisco)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 63 with San Francisco RHP Kyle Zimmer. The La Jolla, California native attended La Jolla High School where he played four years of baseball. Missouri releases 2012 Schedule

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Mizzou baseball program and head coach Tim Jamieson have announced its 2012 competition schedule on Friday (Nov. 18). The Tigers have 55 games scheduled for the 2012 season, including 29 against teams that qualified for last year’s NCAA Tournament. Also, of the 55 games, Mizzou will play 33 at Taylor Stadium. Elon releases 2012 Schedule

ELON, N.C. — Elon baseball head coach Mike Kennedy today announced the 56-game slate that his Phoenix will tackle this spring. Highlighting the slate is a three-game set at two-time defending national champion South Carolina in late February as well as home visits by North Carolina, East Carolina and Wake Forest. Michigan State releases 2012 Schedule

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State baseball program has announced its 2012 schedule.

Highlights on the schedule include 22 home games at McLane Baseball Stadium, a three-game series at 2011 College World Series participant Texas A&M, the sixth annual Crosstown Showdown against the Lansing Lugnuts on April 5 at Cooley Law School Stadium, and the second annual “Clash at Comerica” vs. Central Michigan on May 15 at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit. MSU will play five teams that earned bids to the NCAA Tournament last season (St. John’s, Texas A&M, Baylor, Seton Hall, Illinois). Read the rest of this entry »

Ball State releases 2012 Schedule

MUNCIE, Ind. – Ball State baseball second-year head coach Alex Marconi announced a 52-game schedule for the 2012 season Thursday afternoon, including 16 games at Ball Diamond.

The schedule is highlighted by an April 10 matchup against Butler at Victory Field, the home of the Indianapolis Indians, the Triple-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Victory Field, which opened in 1996, has been home to the Triple-A All-Star Game, IHSAA Baseball State Finals. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 Countdown: 64. Austin Kubitza (Rice)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 64 with Rice sophomore RHP Austin Kubitza. The Colleyville, Texas native attended Heritage High School where he was a three-year letterman and two-year varsity starter for head coach Alan McDougal. His senior year saw him go 8-2 on the mound with a 2.28 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 64 innings. He was also an accomplished hitter with a .354 batting average with a .687 slugging percentage and 32 RBI in the Panthers’ 33 games. He picked up several honors including being named Second team 5A all-state pitcher, Member of the Texas HS Coaches Association North All-Star team, and named most valuable player honors in District 5-5A. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the seventh round of the 2010 MLB Draft but were not able to come to an agreement with him. Read the rest of this entry »

Illinois releases 2012 Schedule

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb announced the 2012 schedule for the reigning Big Ten champion Fighting Illini baseball team Wednesday. The Orange and Blue will open the season at the fourth-annual Big Ten/Big East Challenge and will play in the Coastal Carolina Invitational and Nike College Showcase on the third and fourth weekends of the season.
