Stony Brook, N.Y. – Stony Brook University head baseball coach Matt Senk has announced the Seawolves 2012 schedule, which is highlighted by 20 home games at Joe Nathan Field, a match-up with East Carolina and trip to Minnesota for the Dairy Queen Classic. The defending America East regular season champions won a school record 42 games last season.

Senk returns 20 letterwinners from last year’s squad including first team All-American William Carmona (Hempstead, N.Y.) and All-America East first team selections Tyler Johnson (Chatsworth, Calif.), Pat Cantwell (West Islip, N.Y.), Maxx Tissenbaum (Toronto, Ontario) and Travis Jankowski (Lancaster, Pa.), who was named MVP of the 2011 Cape Cod Summer League.

Stony Brook kicks off the 2012 season with a trip to Louisiana for a three-game set against Nicholls State on Feb. 24-26. This will be the second trip to face Nicholls for the Seawolves, who took two of three from the Colonels in 2007.

SBU heads to Greenville, N.C. to face East Carolina in a three-game series the following weekend. The Pirates went 41-21 last season and advanced to their 11th NCAA Regional in the past 13 years.

The Seawolves then travel north on March 9-11 for the University of Minnesota’s Dairy Queen Classic. Playing at former home of the Minnesota Twins, the Metrodome, the Seawolves will play two games each against Kansas and the host Golden Gophers.

SBU opens its home schedule on Wednesday, March 14 against Iona as they begin their first full season at newly renovated Joe Nathan Field. The Seawolves went 15-3 in home contests last season.

The 24-game America East schedule begins with a three-game series against Binghamton at Joe Nathan Field on April 7-8. Stony Brook tied an America East record with 22 conference wins last season.

Stony Brook has home-and-away three-game sets against Binghamton and UMBC. SBU will also play a single four-game series against Albany and Maine on the road and versus Hartford at home.

The regular season leads up to the 2012 America East championships that will be held May 23-25 at the site of the regular season champion. The winner of the four-team double-elimination tournament earns the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
