Top 100 Countdown: 72. Scott Firth (Clemson)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 72 with Clemson junior RHP Scott Firth. The Buffalo Grove, Illinois native attended Adlai E. Stevenson School where he picked up three letters. He was named all-conference as a sophomore, junior, and senior while being named All-State as a senior. He was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 36th round and 1076 overall selection.

As a freshman in 2010, he went 2-1 with a 3.58 ERA in 16 appearances (four starts) totaling 32.2 innings while allowing 43 hits, 12 walks, and 25 strikeouts. He spent the summer of 2011 in the NECBL with the Keene Swampbats. He accumulated a record of 1-1 and a 1.99 ERA in 22.2 innings pitched over seven appearances (three starts).

Firth continued his strong start to his career as a sophomore. He went 5-1 with a 3.06 ERA in 16 appearances including seven starts. He held opponents to a .225 batting average against while walking 27 and striking out 38. He spent the summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks going 3-1 with a 1.88 ERA and .218 opponents’ batting average in 43.1 innings pitched over nine starts. He was named a CCBL All-Star and an All-League selection.
