Oregon’s George Horton added to 2012 USA Collegiate National Team Coaching Staff

DURHAM, N.C. — USA Baseball has announced that Oregon baseball coach George Horton has been named to the 2012 Collegiate National Team coaching staff. The Ducks skipper will serve as an assistant coach under manager — and new Tennessee Volunteers head coach — Dave Serrano.

“We have long admired George’s work at Cal State Fullerton and Oregon, and we are excited to name him to a Collegiate National Team coaching staff,” said Eric Campbell, USA Baseball’s general manager of National Teams. “George’s energy and leadership will be a welcome addition to Dave Serrano’s staff.” Read the rest of this entry »

Northern Illinois releases 2012 Schedule

DeKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois baseball team and Head Coach Ed Mathey announced the 2012 schedule today for the Huskies 102nd season. The Inside Pitch: UNLV

Second year head coach Tim Chambers hopes to bring his squad to the top of the Mountain West conference but he will face some severe competition, especially from TCU. One of the first things that Coach Chambers did when he took over the Rebels was to bring over some of his players from College of Southern Nevada. In his first season in Vegas, he brought the team to a 33-25 record while going 10-13 in Mountain West play. Read the rest of this entry »

Top 100 Countdown: 54. Kent Emanuel (UNC)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 54 with North Carolina sophomore LHP Kent Emanuel. The 6’4 205 pounder out of Woodstock High School and Woodstock, Georgia was named All-county, all-region and all-state selection as a senior. The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted in the 19th round in the 2010 MLB Draft but he decided to head to North Carolina to continue his baseball career. Read the rest of this entry »

MLB.com releases 2012 Top 50 Draft Prospects

MLB.com has put out their 2012 Top 50 Prospects. As I have been saying throughout the year, the 2012 college draft class is down with only 20 included on the list. Leading the draft class is Stanford RHP Mark Appel who had an outstanding summer with the USA National Team and in the Cape Cod Baseball League. The other two college players in the Top Five are Arizona State shortstop Deven Marrero at number 3 and Florida catcher Mike Zunino at number 5. Toledo releases 2012 Schedule

TOLEDO, OH – The University of Toledo baseball program will compete in 55 games over the course of its 2012 season, Head Coach Cory Mee announced today. Twenty of the contests will take place at the friendly confines of Scott Park. CBD Interview with FIU’s Turtle Thomas

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season today with an interview with Florida International head coach Turtle Thomas. The Panthers have made the NCAA Tournament the last two seasons going 40-20-1 in 2011 and 36-25 in 2010. The biggest issue is the fact that they have a 0-4 record in the NCAA Tournament over those seasons. Top 100 Countdown: 55. Steve Nyisztor (Rutgers)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 55 with Rutgers junior infielder Steve Nyisztor. The Toms River, New Jersey native attended Toms River North High School. As a senior, he set school single-season records in batting average (.511), doubles (14), slugging percentage (.904) and tied the school single-season record in triples (7) in 2009. He had 48 hits, 29 RBI and 33 runs scored also in his senior season. He helped lead the team to back to back South Jersey Group IV state titles in 2008 and 2009.  Read the rest of this entry »

Illinois State releases 2012 Schedule

NORMAL, Ill. – Six 2011 NCAA Division I Tournament participants and 11 teams that won 30 or more games highlight the 52-game 2012 Illinois State baseball schedule released by head coach Mark Kingston Monday.
