Top 100 Countdown: 95. Cole Swanson (San Diego State)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 95 in San Diego State sophomore LHP Cole Swanson. The 6’5 195 pound lefty is from San Diego, California where he attended Torrey Pines High School picking up three letters. As a senior, he went  5-5 with one save and a 2.59 ERA in 13 appearances (nine starts). Gonzaga releases 2012 Schedule

SPOKANE, Wash. – (Oct. 7, 2011 – www.gozags.com) – The Gonzaga University baseball team’s 2012 season will once again be another challenge as head coach Mark Machtolf announced the Bulldogs home-friendly schedule Friday.

Hawai’i releases 2012 Schedule

Arizona releases 2012 Schedule

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Arizona baseball team will open the 2012 season with 20 of its first 22 games at home, including 15 straight to start the year, at the new home of the Wildcats – Hi Corbett Field.

Arizona will play 35 of its 55 regular season games at Hi Corbett Field, which is scheduled to make its debut as the permanent home for Arizona baseball when North Dakota State visits Tucson to open the 2012 slate in February (17-19). Appalachian State releases 2012 Schedule

BOONE, N.C. — Twenty-nine games at Beaver Field at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium and a trip to one of college baseball’s most famed venues highlight Appalachian State University’s 2012 baseball schedule, which was announced by head coach Chris Pollard on Thursday.

Coming off its fifth-straight 30-win season, Appalachian will play 29 of its 56 regular-season games in the friendly confines of Smith Stadium in 2012. ASU posted a 17-10 record at Smith Stadium in 2011 and is 69-39-1 (.638) at the state-of-the-art facility since it opened in 2007. Read the rest of this entry »

Dartmouth releases 2012 Schedule

HANOVER, N.H. — Dartmouth Head Baseball Coach Bob Whalen, beginning his 23rd season at the helm of the program, today announced the Big Green schedule for the upcoming 2012 season. Michigan releases 2012 Schedule

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The University of Michigan baseball program and head coach Rich Maloney announced Thursday (Oct. 6) the team’s 2012 schedule that features 21 games at the Wilpon Complex/Ray Fisher Stadium, tournaments in March at LSU and Coastal Carolina, and a three-game home series against Big Ten newcomer Nebraska in May. Top 100 Countdown: 96. Krey Bratsen (Texas A&M)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today with number 96 with Texas A&M sophomore outfielder Krey Bratsen. He checks in at 6’0 and 175 pounds out of Bryan, Texas where he attended Bryan High School. Bratsen had an outstanding career which saw him win four letters while bringing the team to the state playoffs in each season. The Oakland Athletics selected him in the 45th round of the 2010 MLB Draft but he decided to continue his baseball career at Texas A&M. Read the rest of this entry »

New White Sox Coach Ventura Boasts College Baseball Ties

The Chicago White Sox put a quick end to their search for a new manager on Thursday, announcing the hiring of Robin Ventura to replace the sometimes polarizing Ozzie Guillen. Ventura, a former White Sox third baseman, will take over a team that went 79-83 in 2011.

Ventura has significant ties to college baseball. This past season, Ventura contributed analysis to ESPN’s coverage of the NCAA Tournament. In addition, he served on the advisory board for the Capital One Cup, an ranking and reward system for all Division I sports programs. Ventura is also a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame, and earned both the Dick Howser Trophy and the Golden Spikes Award during his Oklahoma State career. Read the rest of this entry »

Big 12 set to add TCU

The Big 12 conference has officially announced they have started negotiations with Texas Christian University (TCU). The conference is currently looking to replace the loss of Texas A&M next year to the SEC and the recent defections of Nebraska and Colorado. TCU had been scheduled to join the Big East conference for the 2012-2013 school year and will reportedly have to pay a $5 million payout. The full press release from the Big 12 is below.
