Here is your October 29th Fall Ball Update.

UALR: Maroon 2 Silver 1

LITTLE ROCK – Junior Tyler Buckley pitched four scoreless innings to help the Maroon Team even UALR’s Fall World Series with a 2-1 victory over the Silver Team Wednesday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. Sophomore Ryan Montgomery pitched a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the save as the two teams head into Saturday’s contest with the series tied at one game apiece.

The Maroon team got on the board early, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After senior Cameron Bentley drew a walk and stole second base, senior Sean Bignall knocked an RBI single to left field that made the score 1-0, Maroon.

St. John’s: Red 6 Black 1

QUEENS, N.Y. – Stephen Rivera worked 5.0 shutout innings, while Robert Case and Vince Tranchina had two RBI apiece as Red defeated Black, 6-1, to take a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Intrasquad World Series. Brendan Lobban added six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of one-run ball to help lead Red. Dan Roland had two hits and a run scored to pace Black, while Sean Hagan racked up five strikeouts in 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.

After stranding a pair of runners in the bottom of the first inning, Red plated a pair of runs in the second. Back-to-back walks opened the inning before a sacrifice set up runners on second and third with one out. Tranchina then lined a two-run single and Red went up 2-0.

Duke: Team Swag 12 Team Dynasty 11

DURHAM, N.C. – Trailing 11-0 late in game two of the Duke Baseball Fall Classic, Team Swag scored 12 runs over the final four innings for a 12-11 win over Team Dynasty on Thursday night at Jack Coombs Field. The win for Team Swag evened the series at one game apiece.

Junior Marcus Stroman was dominant on the mound for Team Dynasty, striking out six batters and allowing just one hit in five shutout innings. Stroman, who did not issue a walk, left with the 11-0 lead after his strong start.

ULM: Maroon 10 Gold 1

MONROE, La. – Maroon scored eight runs in the first three innings and cruised behind the solid starting pitching of Randy Zeigler, thumping Gold 10-1 in game three of the ULM Maroon & Gold Blood Series at Warhawk Field.

With the win, Maroon is now in control of the five-game split-squad matchup with a three-games-to-none lead.

The visitors struck immediately in the top of the first inning. Maroon left fielder Les Aulds led off with a four-pitch walk against Gold starter Cale Wine, stole second base cleanly and advanced to third on a throwing error by Gold catcher Joey Cesario. Taylor Abdalla grounded out deep in the hole at second to score Aulds and give Maroon a 1-0 lead.

Oklahoma: Red 7 White 0

NORMAN, Okla. — Jordan John tossed four scoreless innings and the Red team scored five runs in the third inning en route to a 7-0 victory on Friday. The win gave the Red team a 2-0-1 advantage in the annual Red-White series with a chance to clinch the best-of-five series on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

The starters from game one, Steven Okert (Red) and Dillon Overton will again take the mound on Sunday. If necessary, the fifth and final game will be played on Tuesday.

Texas Tech: Red 4 Black 1

LUBBOCK, Texas – The Texas Tech baseball annual Red & Black Series ended with a 4-1 Red victory over Black on Friday afternoon at Dan Law Field at Rip Griffin Park. The Red team finished the series with a four-game sweep over Black.

A four-run seventh inning by Red culminated the series sweep as four singles and one defensive error led to the victory. Freshman right-handed pitcher David Gates (1-0) earned the win pitching a perfect sixth inning while junior lefty Scott Erzinger pitched a three up, three down seventh inning to notch the save. Senior third baseman Stephen Hagen led the Red team going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

UCF: Black 2 Gold 2

ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFathletics.com) – The Black team came from behind and managed to hold off a Gold rally to capture the 2011 UCF Black and Gold World series on Friday night. The teams played to a 2-2 tie in game three at the baseball complex in front of a lively crowd that braved the elements.

Freshman Erik Barber got things going for the Gold team in the bottom of the fourth when he hit a ball down the left field line for a triple. Freshman JoMarcos Woods sent him home on a sac fly to right to put the Gold team on the scoreboard, 1-0.

Louisiana-Lafayette: Black 5 Red 1

A five-spot in their final at bat lifted Black to a 5-1 win over Red in Game 2 of the UL Baseball Fall World Series Friday evening at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The comeback spoiled a strong pitching performance by the Red team pitching staff which did not allow a hit until the Black team’s rally in the sixth inning.

Game 3 of the Fall World Series is set for 4 p.m., on Saturday.

Maryland: Red 6 Black 1

College Park, Md. – The Black team’s Tim Kiene went 2-5 and drove in four runs, and three pitchers combined to hold the Red team to four hits and one run in a 6 to 1win in game 1 of the Red & Black World Series Friday night.

Starting pitcher David Carroll pitched four innings of one hit baseball and had six strike outs. He was relieved by Jeff Crosswhite who pitched three and two thirds innings and picked up the win, as well as Jimmy Reed who earned the save.

Samford: Red 6 Blue 2

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Red team defeated the Blue team, 6-2, in game one of Samford baseball’s annual Red-Blue World Series Friday evening at Joe Lee Griffin Field.

Charles Basford was the winning pitcher for the Red team, pitching two strong innings. Kyle Putkonen took the loss for the Blue team, tossing two innings and giving up just one earned run. The pitchers were limited to two innings on the mound each.
