Here is your Fall Ball Update for October 19th.

Washington: Gold 12 Purple 7

SEATTLE – The Gold Squad won game one, 12-7, as the Husky baseball team opened its annual Fall World Series Tuesday night at Husky Ballpark.

Freshmen Michael Camporeale and Robert Pehl each drove in three runs for the victorious Gold team. Junior college transfer Mac Acker picked up the win, going four innings and allowing four hits while striking out four. Austin Voth came on in the sixth inning of the seven-inning game and got the final out to preserve a 9-7 lead and Josh Fedendall closed it out in the seventh.

Missouri: Gold 7 Black 4

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Gold Team defeated the Black Team in game one of the Mizzou Fall World Series, 7-4, in eight innings on Tuesday night (Oct. 17) at Taylor Stadium. The Gold Team now leads the best-of-seven series, 1-0, and game two will be contested tomorrow at 3:15. The Gold Team scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning to take game one in extra innings.

The Gold Team jumped all over Black starter John Miles in the first inning and took advantage of two Black errors to plate a pair of runs to take a 2-0 lead. After a single by Dillon Everett, right fielder Conner Mach singled and Everett scored on a two-base error by Dane Opel in right field to score the game’s first run and Mach advanced to third on the play. Catcher Ben Turner then reached on an error, allowing Mach to score from third, giving the Gold Team a 2-0 lead.

Illinois State: Red 3 Black 2

NORMAL, Ill. – Led by another strong pitching performance by junior right-hander Brad Sorkin, the red team won its first game of the 2011 Illinois State baseball Fall World Series Tuesday evening at Duffy Bass Field. Several players, including Sorkin, switched intrasquad teams as the Redbirds started the second and final week of the autumn set. Sorkin also earned the win for the black team last Tuesday.

The Buffalo Grove, Ill., native struck out five and did not allow an earned run through five innings of work, while senior reliever Justin Hauer earned the save by pitching the final two shutout innings of the seven-inning game. Freshman left-hander Dylan Craig suffered the loss, despite allowing just two earned runs and striking out four through four innings. Freshman right-hander Jeremy Rhoades did not allow an earned run during his final two innings of relief for the black team.

Arkansas: Cardinal 11 White 10

FAYETTEVILLE – Matt Vinson drew a two out, bases loaded walk in the bottom of the ninth to lift the Cardinal team to an 11-10 win Tuesday afternoon in game three of the Cardinal-White series at Baum Stadium.

With the victory, the Cardinal team takes a 3-0 lead in the series. Game four is set for 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoon. Cardinal can clinch the series with a win.

With the game tied at 10 in the bottom of the ninth, the Cardinal team put together a two-out rally to pick up the win. Dane Phillips started the rally by doubling off the right field wall. After an intentional walk to Sam Bates, Jacob Morris drew a walk to load the bases for Vinson. Vinson fell behind in the count 1-2, but battled back to draw the base on balls and give Cardinal the 11-10 win.

Western Michigan: Brown 8 Gold 2

KALAMAZOO, Mich.- The Bronco baseball team began its fall World Series Monday, Oct. 17, at Robert J. Bobb Stadium with Brown defeating Gold in Game 1, 8-2.

Vinnie Booker (Clarkston/Lake Orion), Lawrence Herron (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Central), Jimmy Martinez (Auburn Hills/DeLaSalle) and Theo Piccirilli (Orchard Lake/St. Mary’s) collected two hits apiece, one for extra bases, and drove in a run for the Brown.

Freshman Jared Kujawa (Temperance/Bedford) went 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Gold, which was only able to scatter six hits on the day. The Gold posted four costly errors and sophomore RHP Patrick Borlik (South Bend, Ind./Washington) suffered the loss.

Duke: Blue 3 White 1

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke baseball team wrapped up its fourth week of fall practice with a pair of intrasquad games.

In Friday’s intrasquad game, junior Chase Bebout limited the White Team to one run on four hits in five innings of work as the Blue Team picked up a 3-1 win. Bebout struck out six batters and walked none to earn the victory. Freshman Dalton Brown then pitched three scoreless frames, holding the White Team to just four hits. Senior David Putman then worked a shutout ninth inning, striking out two batters to earn the save.
