College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.
We continue the countdown today at number 90 with Cal junior LHP Justin Jones. The 6’2 188 pound lefty out of Oakdale, California had an outstanding high school career at Oakdale High School. As a senior, he went 10-1 with 118 strikeouts and a 0.42 ERA. He was even better as a junior going a perfect 12-0 with 124 strikeouts and a 0.40 ERA. The Chicago White Sox selected him in the seventh round but he decided to head to Berkley to become a member of the Cal squad.Â
As a freshman in 2010, he went 10-6 with a 4.22 ERA in 15 starts and 18 appearances. He struck out 73 batters in only 98 innings pitched and walking 29 batters. He was named a Freshman All-American by both Collegiate Baseball and Baseball America, as well as first-team All-Pac-10 for his performances on the field.
Jones had another solid season in 2011 with the Bears going 9-6 including three complete games accumulating a 2.93 ERA in 20 appearances (14 starts). He pitched in a team high 119.2 innings with 81 strikeouts and 31 walks.
