Big 12 set to add TCU

The Big 12 conference has officially announced they have started negotiations with Texas Christian University (TCU). The conference is currently looking to replace the loss of Texas A&M next year to the SEC and the recent defections of Nebraska and Colorado. TCU had been scheduled to join the Big East conference for the 2012-2013 school year and will reportedly have to pay a $5 million payout. The full press release from the Big 12 is below.

Acting upon a unanimous recommendation of its expansion subcommittee, the Big 12 Conference Board of Directors has authorized negotiations with Texas Christian University to become the Conference’s 10th member, and instructed interim commissioner Chuck Neinas to immediately begin discussions with TCU.

The action of the Board was without dissent. On the advice of legal counsel, The University of Missouri did not participate in the vote.
