Top 100 Countdown: 98. Trey Mancini (Notre Dame)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today with Notre Dame sophomore first baseman Trey Mancini who checks in at the 98th spot on our Top 100. He is from Winter Haven, Florida where he attended Winter Haven High School. He played three years of baseball under head coach David Saliba. His senior year saw him hit .480 with 23 runs scored, 10 doubles, six home runs and 31 RBI. He was selected to the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Baseball All-Star Game.

As a freshman in 2011, he lead the team in all three triple crown categories with a .323 batting average while hitting nine homersand driving in 34 runs as he appeared in all 53 games last season. He was named the 2011 Big East Freshman of the Year while being a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American.

He played the summer of 2011 in the NECBL with the Holyoke Blue Sox. He appeared in 47 games including the playoffs as he hit .291 with nine homers while driving in 37 runs. Baseball America rated him the seventh best prospect in the league.

I saw him several times this summer, and he can really hit.  Mackenzie Stadium (home of the Blue Sox) is no bandbox, and he put several out of there.  No specific complaints on his fielding, but he does look a tad awkward out in the field.
