Here is your October 5th Fall Ball Update.
North Carolina: Navy 0 Blue 0
Chapel Hill, N.C.– Dominant pitching was the theme of Tuesday afternoon’s scrimmage as Navy and Blue fought to a 0-0 tie in a contest that lasted eight and one-half innings. Tate Parrish and Chris O’Brien threw for Navy while Hobbs Johnson and George Carter were on the mound for Blue. Navy held a four to two edge in hits, with Blue committing the only error of the game on a failed pick-off attempt in the eighth inning.
Wichita State: Gold 10 Black 1
WICHITA, Kan. – The Wichita State Gold team took a 3-0 lead in the Fall World Series with a 10-1 win in game three. Gold starter Kris Gardner went six innings and gave up one run on five hits with two strikeouts. Aaron LaBrie pitched three shutout innings in relief. Full Recap
East Carolina: Gold 5 Blue 4
GREENVILLE, N.C. – Tyler Bolton (Purple) and Kevin Brandt (Gold) tossed a combined 8.2 scoreless innings of relief and Jay Cannon smacked a two-run homer in the first inning to pace the Gold to a 5-4 win during the first game of the annual Purple-Gold World Series Tuesday night at Lewis Field inside Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Gold (1-0) erupted for four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning off of Austin Chrismon and really never looked back. Leading 2-0 in the bottom of the frame, Cannon stepped to the plate with Chris Gosik on second and roped 2-0 offering from Chrismon to left field pushing the lead to four. Philip Clark led off with a single to center and scored on Tim Younger’s double to right center. Gosik plated Younger on a two-out double to left center setting up Cannon’s first home run of the series. Full Recap
Virginia: Blue 8 Orange 7 (10 innings)
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The Blue team scored three runs in the top of the 10th inning, then survived a rally by the Orange squad to earn an 8-7 win in Game 1 of the Orange and Blue World Series Tuesday evening at Davenport Field. Freshman Nick Howard’s two-out, two-run single in the top of the 10th proved to be the deciding blow.
Game 2 of the Orange and Blue World Series is slated for 6 p.m. Monday.
Howard went 2-for-4 with four RBI to pace the Blue’s 10-hit attack. Chris Taylor, Keith Werman, Shane Halley and Kenny Towns all chipped in a pair of hits for the Blue.
