Virginia releases 2012 Schedule

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The reigning Atlantic Coast Conference champion Virginia baseball team has unveiled its schedule for the 2012 season. The Cavaliers’ 55-game schedule is highlighted by home ACC series with North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.

Coming off a trip to the College World Series, Virginia is slated to play host to 36 games at Davenport Field. The Cavaliers’ schedule will be challenging, featuring 26 games against 10 teams that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Read the rest of this entry »

UVA outfielder Mark Podlas Leaves Program

According to sources close to the situation, Virginia sophomore outfielder Mark Podlas has left the program. Podlas was a highly regarded recruit out of high school as he was ranked as the 83rd best player in Baseball America’s Top 100 and was a two-time  Northeast Perfect Game All-Star.  Read the rest of this entry »

Florida Baseball talking Fall Practice

The University of Florida Gators are coming off a 53-19 campaign and a first place finish in the SEC Eastern Division with a 22-8 conference record. The Gators in the postseason got all the way to the CWS Championship Series before losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks to end their season in disappointing fashion. Florida is expected to be one of the top five teams against in 2012 led by shortstop Nolan Fontana, LHP Brian Johnson, and 1B/OF Preston Tucker among others. Top 100 Countdown: 77. Tom Murphy (Buffalo)

College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 77 with Buffalo junior catcher Tom Murphy. The West Monroe, New York native attended Central Square High School. He was a three year captain for coaches Kyle Brown and John Jefferies. As a senior, he batted .510 with eight home runs, eight doubles and three triples while being named First-Team All-CNY and CNY Athlete of the Year. Read the rest of this entry »

UALR: Maroon 2 Silver 1

LITTLE ROCK – Junior Tyler Buckley pitched four scoreless innings to help the Maroon Team even UALR’s Fall World Series with a 2-1 victory over the Silver Team Wednesday afternoon at Gary Hogan Field. UALR releases 2012 Schedule

LITTLE ROCK – The defending Sun Belt Tournament champion UALR Trojans have finalized their schedule for the upcoming 2012 baseball season, it was recently announced by head coach Scott Norwood. Coming off the program’s first-ever NCAA Regional appearance, UALR’s 56-game slate features matchups against five squads that qualified for the 2011 NCAA Tournament, and will host what will be the first-ever State Farm Arkansas Classic at Dickey-Stephens Park. College Baseball Daily continues our countdown to the start of the 2012 College Baseball season by checking in on the Top 100 Players in the country. We will be providing one player per day until we reach number 1.

We continue the countdown today at number 78 with Texas sophomore infielder Erich Weiss. The Brenham, Texas native attended Brenham High School where he was a two year letter winner at shortstop and second base. As a senior, he hit .470 and scored 50 runs, 39 RBI, 15 doubles, four triples and three home runs as he helped the team to the State Class 4-A baseball Championship. He was also named first-team All-District 18-4A and first-team All-State Class 4A by both the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association and the Texas Sports Writers Association respectively. ORLANDO, Fla. (UCFAthletics.com) – Trailing by as many as three runs in Game 2 of the Black and Gold World Series, the Black team never faltered, rallying for a three-run eighth inning to top the Gold team, 5-4, Thursday afternoon from the baseball complex. URI baseball player Joseph Paul Ciancola passed away on Thursday afternoon after an medical emergency during a strength and conditioning workout on Monday. He was transported by ambulance to South County Hospital in South Kingstown, R.I and later was transported to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, R.I. Ciancola was only 20 years old.

Ciancola was expected to be a key member of the Rams pitching rotation this season after sitting out his freshman campaign after deciding not to go to Winthrop University.

The Greenwich (CT) Times is reporting that he was being treated for malignant hyperthermia but a cause of death has not been determined. Malignant hyperthermia is an inherited muscle disorder triggered by certain types of anesthesia that may cause a fast-acting life-threatening crisis, according to the website for the Malignant Hyperthermia Association of the United States.
