Former Oral Roberts player Ryan Iannelli Passes Away

TULSA, Okla.-The Oral Roberts athletics department is mourning the loss of former baseball player Ryan Iannelli, who died Wednesday in a helicopter crash during combat operations in Afghanistan. Iannelli was serving his country as a pilot in the Marines.

Iannelli graduated from ORU in 2006 and was a member of the Golden Eagle baseball team that advanced to face Clemson in the NCAA Super Regional. Originally from Clarksboro, N.J., Iannelli was a four-year member of the team, seeing time in the outfield and as a pinch runner. Read the rest of this entry »

Purdue’s New Facility to be named Alexander Field

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue University’s new baseball facility will be named Alexander Field in honor of the late John and Anna Margaret Ross Alexander.

The Alexanders were the parents of Dave Alexander, who is giving the lead gift for the project. David Alexander was Purdue baseball coach from 1978 to 1991 and then an athletics administrator through 1994. All three Alexanders graduated from Purdue, and Dave played on Purdue’s baseball team. Alabama releases 2012 Schedule

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Coming off its fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance, the Alabama baseball will play a total of 21 games during the 2012 season, against teams that advanced to the NCAA Baseball Tournament last season. TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana State baseball team hit the field for the first time on Tuesday, Sept. 20, taking on the Ontario Blue Jays at Bob Warn Field at Sycamore Stadium. Georgia Tech releases 2012 Schedule

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech baseball head coach Danny Hall announced Thursday the 2012 schedule consisting of 56 regular season games.

The Yellow Jackets will face nine opponents that participated in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, hosting six of those teams at Russ Chandler Stadium. The Jackets posted a 26-10 record on the Flats last season. Read the rest of this entry »

Michael Naughton added to Washington State Coaching Staff

PULLMAN, Wash. – Michael Naughton has joined the Washington State University baseball staff as the Cougars’ volunteer coach, skipper Donnie Marbut announced, Wednesday.

A native of Tacoma, Wash., Naughton was the head coach at Tacoma Community College from 2002-05. He was named the NWAACC Coach of the Year for the West Division in 2003. Prior to the being the Titans’ head coach, he was an assistant for current Cougar pitching coach Gregg Swenson at TCC from 1999-2001. Read the rest of this entry »

Wake Forest completes Coaching Staff

Memphis releases 2012 Schedule

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Contests against eight clubs that advanced to the 2011 NCAA Tournament and 30 home games featuring a clash with the University of Tennessee at FedExPark highlight Tiger baseball’s 57-game, 2012 slate, eighth-year head coach Daron Schoenrock announced Wednesday.

The Tiger’s potent 2012 schedule features 25 matchups against nine teams that clipped 30 wins a year ago and six tilts versus 40-win programs, Conference USA foes Rice and East Carolina. Memphis will play 18 games against 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifiers; eight of which will be played at home. Matt Wilson added to Cal State Northridge Coaching Staff

Ole Miss releases 2012 Schedule

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss baseball team will host 32 home dates and play seven series against NCAA Tournament teams from a year ago, Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco announced on Wednesday with the release of the 2012 baseball schedule.

Shane Davis added to Western Illinois Coaching Staff

MACOMB, Ill. – Shane Davis has been named assistant coach for the Fighting Leatherneck baseball program. He comes to Western Illinois after two seasons as an assistant coach at Cleveland State.

“I’m very pleased to be in Macomb,” said Davis. “I’ve followed the program closely, and seen the improvemnents made in the past two seasons. I look to add to a program that is progressing toward great things in the Summit League.” Read the rest of this entry »
