2011 MLB Draft News and Notes for August 6th
The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have till midnight on August 15th to sign their prospects or they will head to college. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.
Clemson signee Daniel Norris, out Johnson City, TN and Science Hill High School was in Dunedin, Florida to have his physical according to a tweet from Keith Law on Friday afternoon. Norris was selected with the 74th overall pick but was widely considered to be the top lefthanded arm in the 2011 MLB Draft. If the news is true about him being in Dunedin for a physical, it would mean that the Blue Jays have started to seriously consider signing him and a deal could be coming soon. LSU RHP Ryan Eades leaves Bourne (CCBL)
LSU RHP Ryan Eades has left the Bourne Braves in the Cape Cod Baseball League before Friday’s game. Eades developed into one of the top pitchers in the league with a 3-0 record and a 0.84 ERA in seven games (six starts). He was also named the starting pitcher for the Western Division in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star game where he pitched a perfect inning. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Neu Selected as Cal Pitching Coach
BERKELEY – Mike Neu, head baseball coach at Diablo Valley College and former standout at Miami and a Major Leaguer with the Oakland A’s, has been hired as the pitching coach for the University of California it was announced by Cal head coach David Esquer.

South Carolina approves Chad Holbrook’s Raise

The University of South Carolina Board of Trustees today approved a contract amendment for athletics director Eric Hyman and a contract extension for associate head baseball coach Chad Holbrook. Coastal Carolina Promotes Drew Thomas

CONWAY – Coastal Carolina head baseball coach Gary Gilmore announced today the promotion of pitching coach Drew Thomas to a full-time post on the staff, replacing former assistant Brendan Dougherty who left to take a similar position at Western Kentucky.
Thomas, who spent the past five seasons at Coastal Carolina as a volunteer assistant and the camps coordinator, will remain pitching coach and now have the ability to recruit off campus. Read the rest of this entry »

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reported that Red Sox first round pick and 26th overall selection Blake Swihart took batting practice on Thursday afternoon at Fenway Park. Swihart is currently committed to Texas where he will play for Augie Garrido. Western Kentucky adds Brendan Dougherty to Coaching Staff

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Western Kentucky University head baseball coach Matt Myers announced Thursday that Brendan Dougherty has joined the Hilltopper coaching staff after spending six seasons at Coastal Carolina.
