Arizona Baseball to Play at Hi Corbett Field

CBI Unveils Tom Walter College Baseball Inspiration Award

RICHMOND, Va. – Before the first pitch of the 2011 college baseball season, Wake Forest coach Tom Walter registered a save.

After an early-season practice, Walter surprised his team when he told his Demon Deacons that he was going to donate a kidney to freshman outfielder Kevin Jordan. A week later, Walter underwent surgery to remove his kidney, which was transplanted to Jordan. Read the rest of this entry »

Liberty set to open New Stadium for 2013 Season

Liberty University earlier this month continued its march toward becoming a prominent collegiate athletics program by announcing the planned construction of a new baseball stadium next to its recently expanded Arthur L. Williams football complex.

Army’s Cole White Impressing in Minors

Each professional baseball player has a unique journey to explain their path to the minor leagues. For First Lieutenant Cole White, his path took him through the U.S. Military Academy.

Following the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, White decided as a high school junior that he was going to serve his country after graduation. With an appointment to West Point in hand, White cemented his name in the Black Knights’ record book and was eventually drafted by the Pirates in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. CBS 5 catches up with USF’s Nino Giarratano After Kidney Donation

If you hadn’t heard the news, University of San Francisco Head Coach Nino Giarratano donated a kidney to his ailing father on July 11th. Coach G’s 80-year old father Mickey’s kidneys failed after having gallbladder surgery last fall, and Nino decided to donate a kidney to help him survive and live a more comfortable life. CBS5 San Francisco caught up with the reigning West Coast Conference Coach of the year to discuss the process.

Jason Anderson added to Illinois Coaching Staff

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb announced the addition of former Illini pitcher and Major Leaguer Jason Anderson as the volunteer assistant coach for the Orange and Blue on Tuesday. An All-American and Big Ten Pitcher of the Year in 2000, Anderson was a 10th-round selection of the New York Yankees and saw time in the big leagues with the Yankees, New York Mets and Cleveland Indians as part of a 12-year career. George Brown named Assistant Coach at Siena

George Brown has been hired as the new baseball assistant at Siena College. Brown was a standout pitcher at St. John’s University, and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 27th Round of the 2008 Major League Baseball First Year Player’s Draft. He played professional baseball from 2008-2010 before seeing his career cut short due to injury.

Brown will serve as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Siena, taking over the top spot on Rossi’s staff. Read the rest of this entry »
