ASU’s Brandon Magee ruptures Achilles Tendon in Football practice

Quick note from ASU football practice Saturday as senior linebacker  Brandon Magee ruptured an achilles tendon. Magee has appeared in 27 games with 3 starts as a DH and outfielder for Arizona State baseball over the past 3 seasons.  The Dodges ended up selecting him in the 27th round of this year’s draft but Magee decided to return to school to complete his football career and eventually get drafted into the NFL. Indiana State releases 2012 Schedule

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Head coach Rick Heller has announced the dates for the 2012 Indiana State baseball schedule today (August 12), a total of 57 games for the Sycamores in his third season in charge of the program.

ISU begins their 2012 campaign with nine games on the road in late February and early March, traveling to Southwest Louisiana (Feb. 17-19), Huntsville, Ala., for the Alabama A&M Tournament (Feb. 24-26) and Eastern Kentucky (March 2-4). Alabama A&M and IPFW will also be at the tournament on the final weekend of February, with matchups to be announced at a later date. Read the rest of this entry »

Harwich Mariners 5 Falmouth Commodores 4

Georgetown’s Mike Garza drove in two runs and East Carolina’s John Wooten hit a homer as Harwich defeated Falmouth 5-4 in game 1 of the Cape Cod Baseball League Championship series. Radford’s Eddie Butler got the win working 4.2 innings in relief giving up two runs. Holy Cross’s Nate Koneski got the loss giving up a run in four innings of relief. Read the rest of this entry »

Manhattan set to name Jim Duffy as Head Coach

Manhattan will name current Seton Hall assistant coach Jim Duffy as their next head coach of the Jaspers baseball program according to CBD sources. Duffy is a 1996 graduate of Seton Hall and has spent parts of seven season as an assistant coach with the Pirates. Duffy played at Seton Hall from 1992-96 and signed a free agent contract with the Houston Astros in 1997. He played three seasons in the Astros organization and progressing to the AA level before retiring in 2000 to pursue coaching and finish his education. Read the rest of this entry »

Gabe Gross And Wes Gilmer Join Auburn Baseball For 2012 Season

Seven year Major League Baseball veteran and 2000 All-America outfielder Gabe Gross and four-year letter winner and 2011 team captain Wes Gilmer will be undergraduate assistant coaches for the 2012 Auburn baseball season, Auburn Head Coach John Pawlowski has announced. Mark O’Brien named Associate Head Coach at San Jose State

Former San Jose State infielder and team captain Mark O’Brien is returning to his alma mater as associate head coach. Head coach Sam Piraro made the announcement.

O’Brien makes the short trip over to San Jose State from Santa Clara University, where he was the head coach of the Broncos for the past 10 seasons. O’Brien posted 258 wins at the helm of the Santa Clara program, becoming only the third coach in the 125-year history of the team to reach the 200-win milestone. Read the rest of this entry »

Matt White resigns at Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – University of Michigan head coach Rich Maloney announced today (Thursday, Aug. 11) that assistant baseball coach Matt White is leaving the Wolverine baseball program to pursue a position with the Boras Corporation. White spent one season as the Wolverines pitching coach after spending three seasons as the volunteer coach at Georgia Tech.  Read the rest of this entry »

Erik Erickson set to Return to Miami (FL)

Sources close to the situation have confirmed to College Baseball Daily that Miami (FL) LHP Erik Erickson has receieved another year of eligibility. Erickson had an injury riddled career with the Hurricanes from 2007-2010 in which he had “Tommy-John” surgery which caused him to miss the 2009 season and ended up having it again after the 2010 season. Erickson took the 2011 season off from baseball to recover from the second surgery and will be back on the mound for the Canes in 2012.  Read the rest of this entry »

Ryan Shotzberger added to Houston Coaching Staff

Houston – University of Houston head baseball coach Todd Whitting announced the hiring of Ryan Shotzberger as assistant coach on Thursday.

“I am really excited to have Ryan at the University of Houston,” Whitting said. “He and I spent a lot of time together at TCU on teams that had a great deal of success.
