Former Tulane Player/Coach Bernard Abadie Passes Away

NEW ORLEANS – Former Tulane baseball standout, head coach and Hall of Famer Bernard “Ben” Abadie died at his home on Friday, Aug. 19. He was 89-years old.

Friends and family are invited to attend Abadie’s memorial funeral mass at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Metairie, La., on Saturday, Aug. 27, at 11 a.m. Visitation will begin at the church at 10 a.m. and interment will take place at Metairie Cemetery. Siena hires Ryan Myers as New Hitting Coach

CBD Column: Should MLB Draft move up Signing Day?

Last week we saw the yearly flurry of draft picked being signed by MLB clubs right at the deadline.

This year, 22 out of the 33 first round picks had not signed heading into the final hour before the deadline. Is this really fair to college baseball coaches to have some of their prized recruits for the next season leave them at the last hour?

Indiana releases 2012 Schedule

The Indiana Hoosiers have released their preliminary 2012 schedule. They will open the season in the Big East/Big Ten Challenge in Clearwater, Florida where they will play three games from February 17th-19th against opponents to be determined. They will have the week off until they head down to the South Alabama Tournament to play three games on February 24th-26th. The following weekend on March 2nd-4th, they will head to East Tennessee State for a three game set. Read the rest of this entry »

Chad Baum added to Cal State Fullerton Staff

Fullerton, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton baseball Head Coach Rick Vanderhook rounded out his coaching staff this week with the re-hiring of former Titan catcher and Volunteer Assistant Coach Chad Baum.

The 12-year Div. I coaching veteran will resume his role as the Titans’ volunteer assistant coach in 2012. He completes Vanderhook’s staff that includes assistant coaches Mike Kirby and Kirk Saarloos. Read the rest of this entry »

USF Baseball Player Bob Mott Named Spirit of St. Francis Medalist

SAN FRANCISCO — The University of San Francisco named senior pitcher Bob Mott the 2011-2012 Spirit of St. Francis Medalist.

Dane Phillips set to Transfer to Arkansas

Oklahoma State catcher Dane Phillips will transfer to Arkansas immediately according to multiple reports including Baseball America’s Aaron Fitt. Phillips played in all 60 games last year for the Cowboys hitting .339 with four homers and 32 RBI. He was solid this summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with the Chatham Anglers hitting .349 with four homers and 34 RBI in 41 games.  Read the rest of this entry »

Georgia State adds Tim Burgess as Assistant Coach

ATLANTA- Tim Burgess, one of the best hitters in Georgia State baseball history, has joined the coaching staff as a volunteer assistant, effective immediately.

A native of Dallas, Ga., Burgess played first base for the Panthers from 2003-04 and later earned his bachelor’s degree from GSU in 2006. Read the rest of this entry »

Fullerton’s Vanderhook excited for 2012 Campaign

The Daily Titan, Cal State Fullerton’s student newspaper, featured new head coach Rick Vanderhook today. He is taking over the Titans program after spending the last four seasons at UCLA and before that, he served as an assistant at Fullerton under Augie Garrido and George Horton. Sun Devils to look Different in 2012 Season

Jeff Metcalfe of The Arizona Republic details how the Arizona State Sun Devils will look much different in 2012 season on the field. the team will feature 19 new players and 17 returnees with Deven Marrero leading the squad. Marrero had a solid summer with the 2011 USA Collegiate National team leading the squad in hitting .322 with 14 RBI in 14 games played. He was also named a Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star by hitting .328 with a homer and 11 RBI in 36 total games including the playoffs. Vanderbilt adds Catcher Chris Harvey

Baseball America is reporting that Vanderbilt will add Norristown Pennsylvania native Chris Harvey to the team. The 6’4 220 pound catcher was committed to the Vanderbilt squad for the 2013 season but ended up speeding up his high school education to enroll one year early. Read the rest of this entry »
