Should Arizona State move Baseball Games Off-Campus?

Jeff Metcalfe of The Arizona Republic recently outlined the reasons that the Arizona State Sun Devils should move all their games off campus starting in 2014 as part of the new Mesa (AZ) facility being built by the Chicago Cubs. His argument is the school would only have to pay two million dollars to use the new place during construction when compared to spending $20-25 million to rebuild current Packard Stadium to bring it up to standards.  Read the rest of this entry »

Cal and David Esquer agree to Five Year Contract

Illinois names Drew Dickinson Pitching Coach

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – University of Illinois head coach Dan Hartleb announced the hiring of former Illini pitcher and volunteer assistant coach Drew Dickinson as the pitching coach for the Orange and Blue on Wednesday. A two-time All-American and Big Ten Pitcher of the Year as a player, Dickinson was Illinois’ volunteer assistant in 2009 and 2011 after a seven-year professional career. College Baseball Daily kicks off our annual look back at how successful teams were during the 2011 season today as we look at the ACC schools. The conference sent two teams to the College World Series in North Carolina and Virginia. The Florida State Seminoles joined the Tar Heels and Cavaliers in the Super Regionals while Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami (FL) and NC State all making the NCAA Regionals. Arizona State looking to play Off-Campus?

According to Arizona Republic reporter Jeff Metcalfe, Arizona State is looking into at moving part of or their entire 2014 schedule to the new Mesa AZ facility being built for the Chicago Cubs which approached the school with the idea. The new facility will cost about 84 million dollars and the Cubs have discussed co-branding the stadium with Arizona State. The stadium will only be five miles from the school’s campus and is an excellent fit for the Sun Devils which plays at Packard Stadium which was built in 1974. Packard Stadium’s current facilities and other amenities are not up to the current standards around college baseball so this would be a major upgrade for the Sun Devils. Dave Schrage named Head Coach at South Dakota State

Veteran college baseball coach Dave Schrage (pronounced Schrag) has been hired to take over the reins of the South Dakota State University baseball program, Athletic Director Justin Sell announced Tuesday.

“Dave Schrage’s familiarity with our recruiting area and his success in building programs like ours make him a tremendous addition to the Jackrabbit family,” Sell said. ” This was a very competitive search process which generated interest from a great pool of candidates from across the country.” Read the rest of this entry »

Oregon adds Mark Wasikowski and Jay Uhlman to Coaching Staff

EUGENE, Ore. – Oregon head coach George Horton completed his full-time coaching staff on Monday when he announced the addition of Mark Wasikowski and Jay Uhlman.

Arizona Wildcats Looking to Move Games Off-Campus?

The Arizona Wildcats are looking to move some or their entire slate of games for the 2012 season to Hi-Corbett Field in Tuscon.

The Wildcats have played their home games on campus at Jerry Kindall Field at Frank Sancet Stadium since 1967 where they drew about 1k fans per game during the 2011 season.
