Former Boston College baseball and hockey standout Joe Morgan was featured in a recent Boston College magazine article by Dan Barry. Morgan played for the Eagle baseball and hockey programs graduating in 1953 from the school in Chestnut Hill. He decided to pursue a baseball career in which he made his MLB debut in 1959. Morgan ended up playing four years in the Majors with five different teams but never becoming an everyday player. Morgan decided to become a manager and had a long career in the minors before receiving a call-up the Boston Red Sox manager’s position in 1988 when he took over from John McNamara at the All-Star break. What followed was known at “Morgan’s magic” as the Red Sox went on to win 12 straight games while making the postseason.
