2011 CBD Draft Signing Day Central

College Baseball Daily will be running updates throughout the 2011 MLB Signing Day today from our team of writers. Most of the action today will take place during the late hours as the players and teams get down to the deadline hour. We will update this post throughout the day with the latest news and notes as they come in. CBD staff will also be posting our updates on Twitter @CB_Daily and on our Facebook Page.

10:00- Couple of Vanderbilt notes: LHP Grayson Garvin signed with the Tampa Bay Rays, Jason Esposito with the Orioles, and incoming recruit Shawon Dunston with the Cubs. -BF

9:20- Mets signee Bradley Marquez will be playing football at Texas Tech according to CBD senior writer William Knox. -BF

7:05- Noe Ramirez has signed with the Boston Red Sox for 625K according to Jim Callis.-BF

6:15- Baseball America’s Jim Callis also reportsthat the Chicago Cubs agreed to a deal with second round pick Dan Vogelbach for $1.6 m (slot=$537.3k). He was a Florida Gators commit. -BF

6:05-New York Yankees have signed 3rd round pick Jordan Cote for $725k according toJim Callis of Baseball America.. He has been compared to Chris Carpenter based on size and both from New Hampshire says Callis. -BF

5:03- Kevin Goldstein tweeted the following: “More and more RUMORS out there that the #Nationals will get Rendon, Meyer AND Purke done; rumor No. 2 is big league deal for Purke.” No surprise by me that these guys will sign. Rendon people considered the best hitter in the draft entering the year and Purke as the top lefty. Meyer on the other hand has a very projectable body and can touch the upper 90’s.-BF

4:53- Cody Jones of Scout.com is also reporting Florida OF/1B Preston Tucker has cut off negotiations with Rockies and is telling those around him he will return to UF for his senior year.-BF

4:47-Cody Jones of Florida’s scout site is reporting that Florida Gators OF Tyler Thompson has cut off talks with the Nationals and will return for his senior year.-BF
4:36-According to Joseph Duarte of the Houston Chronicle, Rice signee Chris McFarland, a shortstop from Lufkin, has signed with Milwaukee Brewers. He was an 18th round pick. -BF

4:02- Chicago Cubs have signed 4th-round pick out of Louisville Tony Zych for $400k according to Jim Callis of Baseball America. He is pure nasty with an upper 90’s fastball and a filthy slider. Potential closer or late inning guy in the Majors. -BF

b>3:50-Mets, 15th-round pick Phillip Evans agreed a deal for $650k. Calif HS middle infielder, offensive-minded guy w/solid D. San Diego State commit according to Baseball America’s Jim Callis. -BF

1:16pm-The Richmond Times-Dispatch has a feature on Seattle Mariners first round pick and Virginia LHP Danny Hultzen which details his decision which will likely come down to the deadline this evening. You can check out the full article by clicking here.-BF

1:10pm- Texas Tech recruit Bradley Marquez signed with the Mets on Sunday evening. Marquez was a standout shortstop at Odessa High School and was expected to play both football and baseball in Lubbock for the Red Raiders. -BF

12:52pm-South Florida signee Jose Fernandez is expected to sign with the Florida Marlins according to his advisor Richard Arena told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. -BF

12:50pmKeith Law of ESPN.com reports that the Toronto Blue Jays have signed 13th round pick Matt Dean for $737,500. -BF

12:20pm- According to Baseball America’s Jim Callis, Florida RHP commitment Kyle Smith has signed with Kansas City. He was a fourth round pick. -BF

9:00am- As CBD reported, Florida State outfielder James Ramsey told us that his decision will come down to the deadline with the Twins. He had a solid summer in the Cape Cod Baseball League with Yarmouth-Dennis including winning the CCBL All-Star Game MVP award. -BF

The rumor in Petaluma, CA, is that 2-time All-Pac 10 catcher Chadd Krist, a 13th-round pick by the White Sox, will return to school for his senior year.
