The MLB Signing Deadline is fast approaching as all teams have until midnight on August 15th to sign their draft picks or they will head to college for the 2012 season. Here is the latest news and notes from around the country.

As we first reported on our twitter, Boston College number 1 starter Mike Dennhardt has signed with the Cincinnati Reds. He pitched in five games (four starts) accumulating a 1-2 record with a 5.89 ERA. In his final start against FSU on March 11th, he suffered an injury to his pitching arm which forced him to have Tommy John surgery.

Tyler Molinaro, a 15th round pick of the New York Yankees, will attend UNC-Wilmington according to Chuck Carree of The Star News. Molinaro played this summer in the Valley League with the Rockbridge. He struggled hitting  .237 with two home runs, 19 RBI and 50 strikeouts in 152 at bats.

The Cleveland Indians signed Arkansas LHP Geoffrey Davenport to a contract according to a release on the Official Arkansas website.  Davenport pitched in six games, including three starts finishing the season with a 3-1 record and a 4.95 ERA. His season was cut short after tearing a ligament in his left elbow against Kansas on March 15 and undergoing Tommy John surgery.

Taylor Martin will be attending Kentucky according to KyForward.com writer Jon Hale. Martin was selected in the 41st round by the Colorado Rockies. His high school teammate Tyler Wells will also be heading to college at Ohio University after he was selected in the 31st round by the Boston Red Sox. Hale’s report also stated that Jonathan Youngblood will attend Meridian Community College in Mississippi after being a 30th round selection of the Braves.

The Baltimore Orioles came to an agreement with Jason McCracken who was the team’s 42nd round pick out of Poway, California. Orioles Director of Amateur Scouting Joe Jordan also told Jeff Zrebiec of The Baltimore Sun that “nothing has changed” in regards to negotiations with Dylan Bundy, Jason Esposito, and Nick Delmonico

Mike Vukovcan of CBS Pittsburgh reports that the Pittsburgh Pirates are set to offer “record money” to Texas commit Josh Bell who was the team’s second round pick. Bell has stayed true to his word that he was going to go to Austin to play for the Longhorns but the Pirates are reportedly offering $4.25 million. For comparison sakes, last year Stetson Allie got a $2.25 million bonus.

Washington Huskies recruit and 27th overall selection by the Cincinnati Reds Robert Stephenson recently took his physical for the team according to Mark Shelton of MLB.com. A deal isn’t believed to be close with the right handed pitcher out of Alhambra High School in Martinez, California. As a senior, he went 8-2 with a 1.19 ERA in 76 2/3 innings and tossed two no-hitters.
